Sadly, some gliders have in fact had their teeth trimmed and as Rita says, it is painful. Angie at Hope for Gliders rescue has one with its teeth trimmed and it cannot eat anything but room temperature soup. Its nerves are exposed and as you can imagine that has got to hurt a lot.
A few other things to ask the vet:
1. What is your procedure for observing sugar gliders after neutering or other surgery (a best practice is for the vet to keep the animal overnight so if it picks at itself, it can be tended to right away)
2. What is your policy on pain medication for gilders who have to undergo surgery? (Gliders are big on self-mutilation and pain meds can curb this tendency right after surgery).
3. What is your recommendation for healing mating wounds on the back of females' necks? (ask for their opinion on open wound care and hydrotherapy).
4. What is your experience with Metabolic Bone disease and hind leg paralysis? (Ask about calcium injections).
5. Recommendations on dehydration and diarrhea?
6. Are you open to speaking to other vets who have experience with gliders?
