I recently moved my gliders to their own room. When I let them out of the cage my boy was walking funny. He had his back end flattened on the ground. My first thought was HLP. I was freaking. He went around the entire room with his back end flattened and rubbed his "stuff" on everything, just dragging his legs behind. He wasnt peeing that I could tell. After an hour or two he was running around like normal. What was he doing??

yep, marking. Other marking behaviors:
- rubbing sides of body against sides of cage or on floorboards of room
- methodically chewing and licking all over
- dipping rear end down to leave a drop of pee here and there
all normal

[this part down below for people who don't know what HLP is since it was mentioned here...]

HLP, or Hind Leg Paralysis is easy to spot. The glider will have a hard time moving around and will drag its rear legs. No snapping out of it after a few minutes either... This is a serious condition that often leads to death if not treated immediately. Your vet can give the glider a subcutaneous calcium injection and you can put the glider on a calcium-rich diet to try to rehabilitate it if that happens. HLP and metabolic bone disease are a common malady amongst gliders because so many people feed them so poorly. For anyone who is interested in making a well-balanced diet with good 2:1 Ca:P ratios, etc. please see the nutrition section and recipe builder here under "resources" in the menu at the top of the page. You can add different foods and the system will automatically calculate the proteins, minerals, vitamins, etc. With a little practice, you can make safe recipes that have what your pet needs. Don't rely on pellets and apples alone to keep them well fed.
