Both of my gliders went OOP October of 08. A few months back, I did see mating behavior, but nothing came of it. Now: both are 13 months OOP, unrelated, unfixed, very healthy, and show no mating behavior. The male has no bald spot yet either.

I'm not overly concerned... just wondering if this timeframe is typical. Thx in advanced.

Just out of curiosity since you say your male has no bald spot... Are you sure it's a boy? Do you see pom poms?

OH MY!... I feel like such a retard. HE IS A SHE! No pom pom, and now that I look harder, I see the slit to the pouch too. Interesting that he-she is quite larger than she-she. Radar was sold to me as a male... welp!

Thx Dahlia.

Did you get him from a breeder? If you did, I'd let them know that you got a female and not a male.

Eh, don't feel too bad about it. This is actually a common problem. And it's probably a good thing too, because if you got them at a pet shop and they are the same age, then I can pretty much promise you they are siblings, regardless of whatever they told you at the store and you do NOT want a sibling pair breeding.

I got the 2nd glider from a different source (Craigslist IIRC). 2nd glider was actually offspring from a PP pair, which might explain why she is much smaller. They are definitly unrelated.

I'm beside myself still. I cannot believe that I thought I had a male... ugh. I handle them nearly every day, and let them run about the bedroom several times a week. I check claws, and teeth often... never once did I think to 'double check' sex. I've had animals of every kind and consider myself well experienced. Just goes to show: No matter how much reptile/cat/dog/rodent/bird experience you think you have... jumping into glider world means you may know nothing. Or at least might need retraining.

So... now I need to fathom getting a male. I could get one for nothing most likely, as I have a buddy that has two outdoor colonies. I would just need him to be young since his colonies are unhandled and 'wild'.

I wouldn't worry to much about getting a male sounds like the 2 you already have are very happy! With joeys comes a bunch more issues. Especially now that you have 2 females you could end up with joeys up to your ears before you know it. If you feel the need to take care of more suggies think about rescueing and nueutereing for there are a ton of homeless gliders already out there in dire need of a forever home.
