We were very excited when our new cage came today. Its 56'' without stand , lots of room to play. Put Dexter and Dixie in --they leaped to climb-and slid down the bars. I didnt realize the horizontal bars are only every 5 inches. while vertical are 1/2 inch. Will they get used to it? is it safe? the cage is a j&m exotics for birds and small animals.

I would have to say with 1/2" spacing and 5" cross bars I would say sound like a very sturdy cage. make sure you can or do lock all and any doors, zip tie the bottom try so they can't slide that out and get out. If you post a pic we might beable to help you better, but it sound good to me.

They will get used to it. As long as they can't get in between the bars, you're good. =]

I agree! When I got my girlie at a few months old she would slide down the vertical bars, but is very used to it. As long as they can't squeeze between the bars you should be good. Also, try adding branches and ropes and platforms to give them options of paths that they can move around without the cage sides.

Checked on the kids at 4am and they were having a blast! The cage is 2 1/2x bigger than the cage they came with-may just be me, but I think they're happier already.

I have the exact same cage and purchased it from the same dealer. They'll do just fine!
