do sugies really need them and if so how often ? I went to the pet store just to look to see if they had them and there were kinda big but he said they were only 1 day old , but they had some other little bird (dang i cant remember the name) so the question is to chick or not to chick?
I would definetly so no they don't need them like suppressedtearz said there are many ways to give protein. I had actually never heard of giving them chicks.
If you are looking at the original Leadbeaters' diet, that's where you're seeing the "one day old chicks". I wouldn't do that, personally. It's unnecessarily cruel to the chick, and potentially unsafe for your suggie.

The old Taronga zoo diet had day old chicks in the diet but they don't any more.
Just for your information, it is illegal to feed live mice/rats/chicks here in Australia. Seems like that's not the case in the US.

Thanks for the information, Ko. I'm sorry if I offended anyone. I was just looking at that old diet. I think it should be illegal to feel live stuff here, too. It seems unnecessarily cruel.

Oh you didn't offend me was just making comment that whilst the old taronga diet did include day old chicks, they would have been dead in the first place. There was not an issue with feeding them though...it was a case of streamlining the zoo husbandry to make things easier.
