I got my first glider July this year, my husband and I were so excited we went out and bought all the best stuff for our new baby. We named him Spanky. Well, we spoiled him like crazy, he spent most of his time in my shirt like most gliders do. I always new I was going to get a second glider, but like most first time owners I wanted to see how it went with one first, I wanted to bond with only him. Well I was selfish! I just got my second glider. We named him Spikey. My boys, Spanky and Spikey! There cute as can be. I could't wait to let them play togther...Well...it did not go as smooth as expected. They did not get along at all, my Spanky was defintaly not happy about this new baby coming on his turf. Were still working on it and were taking it slowwww, I don't want either of them to get hurt. The point of all this is, If your thinking about getting a glider, It really is better getting two at the same time. It's just better for the gliders. Yes it was defintaly eaiser with my second glider, just like being a mom for the second time, but the truth is that they will have an instant bond and it is much eaiser in the long run. I've learned so much about my gliders from reading what other people have to say. I hope this will help someone make their decision.

Is Spikey much smaller than Spanky? That could also be a reason. But yes I totally agree with you and that's a great example of why it's better to just start of with two. Thanks for sharing your story. =]

Your welcome...Yes Spikey is much smaller. They came from the same breeder but from different parents. And Spanky is just a biger glider I think, his father is big too. I will just keep introducing them and keep them in seprate spaces until Spike gets a little biger

It is most common that two unneutered males will not get along.

This is a great article that may help you with introductions. You can skip the first part since you have already picked out his buddy. Good luck!

2 males will not get along. even if introduced early its still almost impossible because they WILL fight for dominance. the only way they will not fight i think is if they are brothers. thats why they didnt get along.

I agree. If you got them neutered, that might help with the dominance thing. But I've also heard that it's unlikely an introduction will work if one is much smaller than the other. So I suggest getting them neutered but separated until Spikey gets a little closer in size. =]

This simply isn't so. I had a five-year-old neutered male; he'd been alone his whole life. I adopted two five-year-old brothers and got them neutered. Introductions were rough at first; it took several weeks but finally they decided to accept each other. They've been best buds for almost a year now. Tell Spikey to be patient with Spanky, eventually he'll come around.

I think the key is neutering. Get both your boys fixed and they'll become less aggressive. It takes about a month for the hormones to finally go away, so you'll have to be patient too.

To be honest, i didnt really know. everyone i have talked to says 2 males cant really work unless they are brothers or something. i would think if they were neutered it would be ok. i have also heard (which i think is true) that if u have 2 males and a female theey will fight for her. but idk.i must have been misinformed. :/

That's okay! And you're absolutely right that if there are two males and one female they'll fight, even if they've been neutered. I bet that's the source of your misunderstanding.

Thanks for all the advise. I am going to get them both neutered. I really just wanted to share my story so that maybe someone would benefit from it and make it easier for them.

Its a excellent idea you can never stress enough how important it is for suggies to have companionship and it would be easier for everyone involved to get both at the same time.
