My husband and I are going to build Boo a new cage.. I was going to get a huge curio cabinet and take the top sides and bottom out and run cage material around it. but, after reading some posts about woods I don't want to risk left over varnishes or the wrong kind of wood .. So we are looking into building an all metal cage..

What do you think about aluminum or steel? I am looking into finding a place to put the coating on it but is a powder coating ok? Or is there a metal that you would recommend that would not be prone to rusting?

I would prefer wrought iron but I can't remember where I found info on that I think its ok but don't remember and forgot to book mark it..

I think they actually recommend powder coating... I'll go look because I know I saw a post on that recently.

Here it is:

This is the link to the one my husband is building. It's not metal but it's nice.

Above is the cage we built also. The directions call for landware clothe which is what a lot of people have used we actually used coated hardware clothe.

Through all the research I have been doing before I purchase some sugar gliders, some websites recommend PVC coated wire for the cages....if any experienced owners here have different info or opinions, please let us newbies know. Thanks!

I may be wrong, but, I think the PVC coated wire is something that is bought that way, I don't think you can actually do it yourself or have someone do it for you.

Powder Coating is a paint process often used for auto body work. It is a powder applied to the metal then heated/baked on. You can probably build a cage then have it coated but it could be costly.

Some wire can be purchased powder coated but bending it will crack the coating.

PVC coated wire is a more flexible coating than powder coating.
