I LOVE YOU RITA!!! Sorry I haven't been around alot. Things are busy here and we are having to take care of my mother-in-law. She can't walk for the next 5 months and she won't come stay at our house. She lives across the street but it's exhausting going back and forth and not seeing my husband much. It's been more in passing lately. We have been doing this for a month so far. Calgon anyone?? lol
Rita I hope everyday is better than the day before. I would have called but I lost your number from before. Keep us posted!
I hope you're feeling okay today, Rita! I've had a few relatives who didn't follow doctors' orders after that surgery. Boy, they wished they had once they decided to do things their own way! LOL! I know that you're going to do great with this. If anyone can, it's you! :-)
I just don't know how you could give up Diet Coke. I can give up almost anything but that! LOL!
In all honesty - I probably would not have given up diet coke - as I was totally addicted to it. I even took one to bed with me and when I would wake to go to the bathroom - I would gulp down half the can - and gulp down the rest when I woke up in the morning. BUT - my saving factor was getting my tonsils out at age 53. After that I could not drink any carbonated beverages. Not because the Dr said I couldnt - but because they tasted so bad. And believe me - I tried diet coke over and over and over again TRYING to like it! But I just dont. I still "remember" how good they tasted tho.
I go back to the Dr this coming Tuesday and hope and pray he will take ou this darn drain tube attached to my stomach. Its just gross and nasty. Thats all I can say for it. After it is gone, I will feel so much better! Because of this drain, I havent been able to sleep in my bed since I came home from the hospital. I sleep in my easy chair in the living room. I cant wait for Tuesday to get here so I can get rid of this darn thing - and start to get some of my life back.
Ughhhhhh - pain meds starting to kick in. Time to get some sleep
After all that you have been through since I have been on, you deserved something MAJOR for yourself. I am proud of you Rita! It takes a strong person to have this surgery done and to follow through with what they are told to do. I know you will! Prayers are being sent your way for that tube to be taken out quickly and safely!!
I will say a few prayers that they take that tube out. Doesn't sound like it is pleasant. Hope you are feeling better today too!
Hmmmmm I wonder if I could beg to have my tonsils out? I have been trying to kick the Diet Pepsi habit and it is winning. I HAVE to have one when I get in the car. And with driving my kids around to and from school I am in the car a lot.
Good Luck Rita. A good friend of mine had a surgery a few years ago. She was huge and taking about a gazillion pills a day for various health problems. She couldnt even hardly walk out to her mailbox. Within a few months she was already a whole lot better. Some meds going away, easier to walk around. Today she looks great and has a whole lot more healthy and happy years ahead of her.
Thank you all for the encouragement. I cant tell you how much it means to me.
Belinda - it's really amazing. I know after the healing is done that I am going to be so much healthier. Guess what??? Im no long taking ANY of my medications I was on before. I have to see my personal physician in about a month and see I still need any of them. If I do, then Im sure it will be at lower dosage. Blood sugar level - normal! Blood pressure - normal! The only one I can think of that I may have to take would be cholesterol, which runs in my family.
Believe me, this has been a long journey getting here. And not always an easy one. So, I have to say I am quite proud of myself for being able to do the things required of me. I dont intend to go thru all the testing, surgery and the physical pain that follows just to gain it back. I pray every day that I have the strength and courage to continue.
Cristy - you dont want to get your tonsils out as an adult!!! Trust me on this one! That was the worst surgery Ive ever had. I still have nightmares that my tonsils grow back and I have to do it again!!!
Imagine someone taking a blow torch to your throat and burning the crap out of it. Thats what if feels like.
I'll just have to tough it out and do it... maybe.... LOL
Rita - I know it takes a lot to just be able to qualify for the surgery. I am in awe of you to be able to do it all. I don't think I could. I think you will do very well with what you have ahead. You are one strong woman!
I went to the Dr this afternoon and he took the nasty, yucky drain out of my stomach!!! Phew - do I feel better! He also removed all my staples and said things look very good. I got a B-12 shot and then off to the nutritionist.
I am sooooo happy! I was told today I can have 2-3 ounces of mashed potatoes with a little gravy - and some squash or pumpkin soup for Thanksgiving dinner!!! My son, Jim, is an excellent gourmet cook and only uses freshest ingredients. Well - after telling him of my appointment today, he is going to make me some squash soup!
I go back to the Dr and nutritionist on December 8th. Cant wait to hear what I can eat then!
AND HERE IS THE BEST PART!!!!!! Since my surgery last Tuesday, I have lost 17 pounds. I got all teary as I didnt expect that. That is 17 pounds in ONE week...
That's wonderful Rita. You'll do great I just know it. Congratulations on your surgery, your recovery and your 17 pounds. You just wait and see. They are just going to drop away like crazy. I know I saw it in my sisters and my mom after they had their surgery.
17 pounds in a week's time! Yeowsa! I'm sure I've FOUND 17 pounds in a week's time (especially at THIS time of year!), but I'm certain I've never lost it! Congratulations!!!
Wow, congrats on all your success! I'm so happy for you =)
Maybe you can call and ask your work to extend your leave? I'm sure the docs would support that decision. Even if you do have to go back, at least you aren't moving around too much!
RITA!! Congrats on your 17 POUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's AMAZING!!
I hope your boss will let you have today off. That way you can take one more work day and the weekend to hopefully get a little less sore and go back to work monday.
Well, I am at work - but not getting much done. My computer hasnt been turned on since I left and this morning its trying to run over two weeks of upgrades and virus scans. Oh well - Im getting paid for sitting here. My day so far hasnt been difficult.
I went to the Dr yesterday evening for a 3 week check up. Im still pretty sore and sitting at my desk at work just about kills me. The Dr told me I could continue to take my pain meds after work so if you notice Im a little more mellow than usual - there's are reason!
They added some new foods to my diet for this week. I can now have a small piece of Melba toast, cottage cheese, low fat cheese 1 oz, and some pureed veggie soup.!!!!
I can still only have 3 ozs of food at a time and I have to take 15-20 minutes to eat. Since I have to take very small bites, it was suggested to use a baby spoon, which I have been,
BUT - the good news is - since my surgery on Nov 17th, (3 weeks ago) Ive lost 26 pounds!!! If you count the liquid diet I was on for over 2 weeks before surgery, Ive lost a total of 40 pounds since Nov 1st.
Lots of bad habits Ive accumulated over the past 57 years have to be changed.
I am soo proud of you! thats great your doing well....my grandma is still waiting on that surgery and its been 7 months she really needs it but im scared she isnt going to follow docs orders like you...i pray that you keep healing and doing well you soo deserved this!
bobnzoey - I have a very strict Dr. Every week I get a new paper with the week's food on it. And Im NOT allowed to stray from what I am told to eat. Actually, I like that. I dont have to guess - because my choices would probably not be the best.
Tell you grandma she can talk to me about this anytime if she would like to. If she wants my phone number, let me know. I hope she is able to have her surgery soon. I waited over 5 months for my surgery - and that part of it really sucks...
ok i will do...but she has problems following docs orders on her diabetes too and while i lived with her for a while her sugar was up around 350 soo it was pretty bad so i worry about her and i too hope she can have it soon too i know she really is miserable alot and with all her great grandbabies she really wants to spend time with them but i will make sure and tell her about you and if she ever needs anyone to talk to that i can get your number anytime
