So my lil Gremlin is awake right now and wanting to play. He loves the day time. And he sleeps all night. And when he dose come out at night the tv or lava lamp need to be on. I think he might be scared of the dark. Cause right now my room is not dark at all. I make sure at night that my room is dark besides when I watch tv. Can suggies be scared of the dark?

And what is the age of this critter? My guess is that he is young and alone and could be frightened of things and may also very well not know the difference if he was yanked from his family too quickly. You may need to teach him what is right.

I suggest getting a cage mate or two or three to help him live his life in his cage.

I also suggest that having a glider that wants your attention during the day is just perfect and I dont see a problem. :)

He is a year in a half and yes he is alone until I find him a cage mate. I don't mind playing with him during the day. I just find it odd that he likes the day better than night.

I think it's a little anthropomorphic to say they would be scared of the dark. They are night creatures and are built for the night. Yes, sometimes they do come out during the day. But I would think it's a loneliness or health issue.

I agree I reaaly doubt they would simply be scared of the dark.

I also think it might be my cat and dogs that could be scarying him. I normaly don't let them in my room now that he is in there but they came in monday night and he didn't like them at all. It was at night. I wonder if he thinks they are in my room all night and gone in the morning.

You might also think of it this way, I would suspect in their normal environment its not always pitch black darkness, there's usually moonlight of some degree, except when its a 'new moon'. Some threads that I have read also say that 'some' suggies that bark constantly in a dark room also quiet down if there is a nightlight turned on....jusy some food for thought.

I would agree with that train of thought. We installed a dimmer in their room. They were way more active when it's dim. Before we had a dimmer, I always kept a nightlight in there at night. During the day, I opened the blinds so it was brighter.

I always have a floor lamp on at night set to fairly dim. I can see them and they can see me and it seems to work out fine for us. Its not dark by a long shot. I agree with the post about it not being absolutely dark in the wild. There are stars and the moon.

It could also have something to do with when you're playing with your glider. You play with him during the day so he may have just adopted your schedule. These guys are highly intelligent and observant. I know that with all three of mine, they quickly adapt to my schedule, whatever it may be. If I take out one of my guys at noon one day to play, then that same glider will be waiting at the door for me the next day at the same time. Now, this doesn't stop my babies from coming out at night, but it's not uncommon for them to sleep in a little while if I had them out for a few hours during the day.

It's possible that your baby is running around all day because he's lonely and waiting for you to take him out. I know that when my boy was alone he was all about sleeping in my shirt during the day rather than in his pouch by himself and he'd be waiting for me at the door of his cage after I would wake up in the mornings. Even if I had slept in. It could be that your boy is very bonded to you and doesn't want to sleep by himself in his pouch if he knows that you are up and moving around. So he's choosing to stay up with you, and only sleeping when you yourself have gone to bed.

P.S. This would also explain why he won't come out when you don't have any lights on at night. He has made the connection that lights off means you're asleep, whereas light on means you're awake.
