i got him believing he was neutered. his previous owners got him thinking he was intact. they were going to use him for breeding.. but when he produced no babies and his bald spot dissapeared she assumed he was fixed. so i took him in. now ive never seen an actual bald spot in person so i dont know for sure what they look like. his bald spot is not totally there but you can tell where it was. he still has his scrotum.. and with being curious i felt two small round "balls" inside his scrotum. can they neuter him without removing those. He has mated with his female friend twice.. and did not get her pregnant. not that im looking for babies.. im just curious.

The standard procedure is to either remove the scrotum altogether, or to open it and remove the testicles. My boys have had the latter procedure and the pom is shrunken, almost (but not quite) invisible. I would say that if you're feeling two little BBs in there, he's still got 'em.

The bald spot isn't really bald, it's a scent gland on the forehead that in an intact male will secrete oil, which slicks down the fur there and makes it look bald. When they're not producing testosterone, the oil secretion stops, and it goes away.

If you're feeling testicles, but there's no spot, and he's mated without results, it seems to me that he's sterile. But only a vet can tell you for sure.

Thats what I was going to say. Only a vet could tell for sure. You could try back tracking his owners and find out when it was done and by who.

Devildog was a yr old before I got him neutered and he was with Sweetpea for 8 months and no babies. I think he was sterile because he came from one of them awfull mass breaders. He did have a bald spot but it went away after the big snip

Lots of vets leave the sac ("poms") but there definitely shouldn't be anything inside!

Doesn't the laser method of neutering leave the testicals intact? Kind of like when a human male gets fixed? I was under the impression that that was the case.

No, the testicles themselves are removed (my vet says they're the size of BBs), but the pom is left. I don't know if anyone's ever done a glider vasectomy, that's an interesting idea!
