I have a can of precut and packaged fruit salad that is packaged in water and has no sugar added. Also says that it's 100% fruit.
Would this be okay for suggies? If you say no I would like to know why?
Just a question.... please don't think it's in my immediate plans for diet, but it may serve as a good emergency food or a good thing to take when I head to my cottage or out of town.
Usually the reasons why are because of them being packaged in syrup [which you say it isn't] or because there has been sugar added [which you say there hasn't]. So as long as the ingredients don't say anything other than the fruit and water, it sounds okay to me. Now I would wait for someone who knows more about this to answer. But I just wanted to give my opinion. =]
The main thing we want to avoid in canned food is sugar, salt and preservatives. Even then, it's okay to used canned (or whatever) food in an emergency, like if there's a tornado or an ice storm and the power goes out for three days.
For emergencys and vacations I would have to say yes. For a good part of their diet, no. If you keep it for emergencys, keep an eye out for the expiration dates. What you don't want is have an emergency and the food is out of date.
READ the ingredients carefully. No Sugar Added often means that some type of artificial sweetener has been used instead. If so this should not be used for gliders. Often vitamin C or Ascorbic Acid is added to keep the fruit from turning brown. That should be OK but not artificial sweetners of any kind
