I just rescued 2 sugar gliders this week and the female is so over weight. She is very tame and loves to be with people but I think she got that way because people would feed her whatever they had. How do I get her weight down ? I feel so bad for her and I want to get the weight off of her as quickly as possible because I know it is not good for her. She is only 2 yrs old and I want her to live a nice long life with us. Anyone have any ideas ?

There are a few wheels such as the custom cruiser that has bounce built in and apparently it is AMAZING when it comes to fluffy gliders. I'll find a link for one. I think there's another kind too. I'll find out info for that one as well.

Here's the link for the Custom Cruiser http://customchoicecruiser.all4gliders.com/

And here's the link to the GC discussion about different wheels for fluffy gliders.

Don't try to put her on a "diet". Just feed her the normal glider portion of fruits, veggies and protein. Cut out all treats and do not give her ANYTHING else but fruits, veggies, and a protein source (eggs, chicken, HPW... No nuts.) This coupled with excerise (wheel and play time outside of the cage) will slowly bring her weight down. You do not want to starve or drastically reduce her amount of food in an attempt to make her lose weight faster, because if she loses weight too quickly it can cause liver failure. Just let it happen slowly. It may take three or four months (maybe longer) but you'll begin to notice a difference. Take some pictures of her now so you'll have a point of reference. Better yet, if you have a way of weighing her, do that and then weigh her once a month to see how she is progressing.
