I just bought fresh new mealworms and i tried to feed it to my female glider (Zelda) & she completely ignored the insect. I thought maybe she wasnt hungry. So, i went and tried to give the worm to my male glider(Houdini) he also ignored them. Is it just that they've never ate a worm or is it just they dont like mealworms ?

you should try cutting the head off and squeezing the insides out and let them try it that way. If they haven't had them before they might not know how to eat it so you can try to show them.

Yeah, many gliders have to learn or get used to eating them. Mine wouldn't touch them in the beginning, now it's a free for all when mama breaks the mealies out!

I have to agree with them, I put some in the cage and they were untouched until I sliced them in half!! Now it doesn't matter how hungry they are, they always have room for mealies :)

yeah mine had to be taught to eat mealies too. Once they figure out that its food and not an uninteresting toy they go through them pretty fast.

My babies are the opposite! They love mealies but aren't crazy about crickets :)

Wow this is an interesting post. I know for a fact that the suggie I adopted had never seen a mealie before but they are his absolute favorite now, as soon as he got a hold of one, I swear he smiled!

yogismom, mine were the same way, it only took a coupla days of me waving them in his face when one of mine tasted and went nuts. the other boy took 2 months before he would try them. now they look at me when i come into the room like "well, where are my worms? what use are you without them?"

We have two gliders Tessa & Casey. Tessa has no idea what a mealie is and we are trying to teach her but Casey is a whole other story. Concerning Casey my daughter's friend calls mealies Casey's Glider Crack boy does she go to town I'm not sure she'll slow down enough for Tessa to eat any if we get Tessa to figure out that they are food.

Also the school principal had a good laugh when my 13 yr old took a video to school on Friday showing Casey pigging out on the mealies for a school assignment and the computer teacher asked my daughter what her video was about she said and I quote "Casey eating glider crack". Yes I got a phone call but everyone had a good laugh out of it. We live in a very small rural community so by the time my older daughter got off work she had heard all about it and had a laugh.

As part of her assignment the video will be put on you-tube that should be interesting, as guess what the title is? Yup Casey eating glider crack.
