Hey guys. I have been busy with life and havent spent much time lately on development initiatives for the web site. It seems to me that many of you would like me to add the Facebook LIKE button on forum posts. So I have a few questions to discuss.
Would you like the LIKE button on forum posts?
Should it be for the entire thread, like up top, or one for each reply?
How about on other content such as Journal, Photos, Gliderpedia...?
Are there any other social media I should look to add? +1, Twadder..?
What other short term initiatives should we look at to make for a better experience here?
I also like the LIKE for individual posts within a thread as well as pics, journals and such. I was actually looking at a journal the other day and just out of habit went to hit LIKE and realized I wasn't on FB...
Oh YES! YES! YES! I know I whine every time I've "thought" to hit the *LIKE* button, then realized I wasn't on Facebook..So this makes me verrrry happy! Please on each reply?..and the other places would be more than Okay with me too. I CAN'T WAAAAIT!!
i agree with having a review section later on. what about having some kind of tutorial that pops up when a new person registers. it would explain all the different sections, point out the search button maybe give a few keywords to start them off. maybe by doing this people wont be asking the same basic questions all the time.
The like button is evil. I don't use it on anything, so if it is there I would not touch it.
For those of you that are FB addicts- watch who can view your posts, we check FB on ALL applicants and if you have "day time" posts when you should be working- you most likely will not get a call back. The new TimeLine thing will also be great for people / jobs snooping. Check your settings and hide that info!

People messing on FB during business hours SHOULDN'T get a call back. We're getting a program to start blocking some of these sites since people can't seem to control themselves. Plus, those that become "friends" with your bosses...really? Of course, I say this since I'm a hirER, not a hirEE and we own our own businesses BUT it is amazing what people will put out there.
That aside, I think a "like" button here would be OK, but not sure the complete point since people always post if/when they agree or don't agree anyway. I guess maybe it would cut down on that? Who knows. Us glider people don't care to keep opinions to ourselves much. LOL
it would be nice to have an introduce yourself section. kinda like how we did the bios in the general chat. but put all of that into its own section. new people could introduce themselves and maybe that will get them more active.
kyro i think its more for like you dont have anything really to say but really like that picture or post and want to let the person know that you liked it.

I have looked into this a little bit and have found success with the SHARE button which would put the individual post or reply on your wall. But the LIKE button is a different animal and requires complicated things that seems to make it not suitable for selecting sub entries. I will keep looking though.
My question for you is; Do you really need the LIKE button with all of the frufru interaction like Number of others who liked it and folks in your network who liked it, or is the SHARE button good enough?

I think we really wanted a like button so we could show others how many other people agree with that post rather than having to continue reiterating that it IS a good idea/post or that the OP should follow the advice. I'd assume they would realize it's a good post/suggestion/advice based on how many people liked/agreed with it.

*LIKE* LOL yeah everything that kozi just said and it would be nice to see who liked it. maybe if we did that people wont feel attacked when 4 people in a row say basically the same thing.
Well, so far I think the Facebook LIKE button can be only one per topic. So for instance, if there was a flame about a mill breeder, but you agreed to a followup to it, you'd be liking the entire thread, not just the followup.
Can someone point me to a forum or a site where comments actually have individual likes? I havent found it.
Do you think that a LOCAL like system would do the trick? Like a thumbs up thumbs down thing? This would allow a count of folks agreeing with a response. We would probably build it in an anon fashion but advanced options could be developed.
www.huffingtonpost.com/
this is the closest thing i could think of. in their comments you can fan or favorite comments. if the best you can do is anon then thats fine but it would be good if we could see who is liking stuff. it doesnt have to be connected to facebook at all.
Web site short term - Like button and other stuff?
