Does anyone know of any good sites for Chinchilla info and/or a chinchilla forum. My oldest daughter has decided she wants a chinchilla and we are doing research at the moment. Between the youngest daughter's hamsters (chewing stuff, water bottle, bedding and treats) and a mistake that I made with my gliders (cage) I think we have most of the equipment needed, but would like to get more info before we take the plunge. And we haven't decided on a food or a multivitamin yet either.

The nice thing is she lives next door (about 50 feet) so she looks in on my gliders during the day while I am at school and I let her dog out at night when she is at work. It works out pretty good and the youngest runs back and forth between the two houses and has a blast.

So chinchilla information hunting we are.

My younger brother really wants a Chinchilla too, my exes grandparents breed them so I've been thinking about it, but the only things I really know is they can jump as high as rabbits and need to take dust baths. I heard multi-level cages so they can jump around too.

multi-level cage, multi vitamins, good quality pellet food, dust bath, dust, some type of chew block to wear their teeth down (pumice stone is the most recommended and we have plenty for the hamsters,a shelter or nest box and they should not be in temperatures above 75 F at least that's what all our research says. I think I'm going to buy my gliders a taller cage and then give my daughter the one I have now and just put in shelves for the chinchilla. We do have a med size one level cage that we will use until we decide and order a more permanent cage. She might be getting two then we will have to reevaluate the plan. The pet store owner (I'll sell her my aquatic fish and snails and microfoods) has a friend that wants to re-home 2 but she would like to keep them together so my daughter may take them instead of getting a young one. But they might come with all their stuff (cages, chew blocks, toys etc.)
