I can't take care of my two little girls anymore and I'm having a really tough time selling them. I've posted to Ebay Classifieds, Hoobly, Craigslist, and one other site. Any other options? These girls need a loving home asap. Please help.

TJones09 Goofy Gorillatoes 3524 Posts Most of the ads I've seen for 2 gliders w/cage & accessories range from $300-$500 with an occasional priced above or below that. If you haven't been having any luck selling your little ones, maybe you should consider offering for a lower cost. I wouldn't reduce to too low, below $300-$400 in ad but be willing to negotiate if you feel that it is a proper candidate to re-home your precious gliders with. I am always afraid that offering too low a cost will attract some poor prospects. Some other things to consider: As far as making your money back, that shouldn't be expected, the value of the cage goes down even if great condition because it's used. Finding the best home for your gliders should be first priority. I kind of doubt (after having spent the last month and a half scouring the internet for a rescued friend for my lone glider, Luna) anyone is going to pay that much. Even with the cage and everything, I wouldn't expect anyone to be willing to give you more that $300-350 (and I feel like I'm kind of estimating high). People who are willing to spend hundreds of dollars on gliders usually want joeys. If I were you, I would consider placing ads with lower prices, and perhaps also listing in your ad that the price is negotiable for someone who can offer them a truly good home. You have to weigh what's more important to you: getting back most of the money you've spent on them, or ensuring they go to someone who can properly take care of them. For example, I recently found a glider, Sugar (horribly original name >.<) on Craigslist. Her owners seem really normal and want us all to meet and hang out before decisions are made. They seem really committed to finding her a good home (they have to move for the husband's job; the job is paying for their housing, so they have to live in a certain place; and they can't have a glider in their new place). After talking with them and explaining what I knew about gliders and how I care for Luna, I told them that I didn't think I could afford the $250 they were asking on top of the costs of a second cage setup for quarantine/intros and the cost of getting both gliders vet visits. The woman went down to $150, which is just a little over what it will cost her to drive up here with her husband and spend a night or two here so we can all meet and whatnot (they still have their old place in Austin, TX, so she's not staying in a hotel just for me or anything). Look at what other people are asking for a rehoming fee for gliders. Reasonably (if you think about this from a purely economic standpoint) you're really not going to be able to get significantly more than the "market price" (what everyone else rehoming a glider(s) is asking). Good luck though. I'm sorry you're having to make this decision, and I truly hope you can find your babies a good forever home.

Classified section! DoubleBogey Fuzzy Wuzzy USA 1244 Posts I would definitely take the "vet costs" and any other "costs" you incurred while caring for them out of the equation. That was a responsibility that you agreed to when you purchased a pet - hence, it's just "lost" money if that is how you want to see it. What "can" be included in a rehoming price would be a discounted price from what you spent on the cage, toys, accessories, and any other "products you want to include. Bear in mind, those are now "used". Unfortunately, almost all products depreciate over time, if not RIGHT after you bought it. You can also include a monetary value on the gliders themselves - but keep in mind, you are not going to get the full retail value that you paid. If that was the case, why wouldn't those same adopters just go buy joeys from someone selling them at the mall, flea market, or a breeder? When adopters are comparing the option to purchase joeys or to adopt from someone "rehoming" - they need to see a cost savings or a value...otherwise you are encouraging them to move on to the next post or a breeder or vendor with a bucket of joeys to choose from. Does this make sense? With all that said, I don't imagine anyone would pay $700 for two gliders and their set up as a rehome. Just my opinion. People are scared of the large investment to own gliders and that number is just daunting even if it's a value overall. At a minimum, list all things that are in the rehoming and their value. Maybe that can help a bit. Also, Catman is right - you should get this posted in Classifieds. I understand that you are looking for advice here but you need to have a classifieds ad. Maybe $500 if you find someone really awesome. I would also think about posting on GC, if you haven't already. There aren't many breeders in NC, but there are plenty of people looking for gliders. He's from Pennsylvania (I'm in NC) but he's going to be driving right through my town on the way to and from the beach in a couple of weeks. This is great because I won't have to ship my girls!!! He's giving me $500 for everything. He's a first time owner but has done his research. I made sure he knows he's got to be able to devote a lot of time and attention to them. Also, I'm making a list of things he should know (just in case) and printing out the ingredients and directions on how to make their food following the diet they've been on, as well as how to get those ingredients you can't find in grocery stores. I feel like my girls are going to a loving home so I'm really happy! But at the same time I'm kinda sad I'm losing my babies. I hope I don't cry when he comes to get them! Pretty sure they aren't handing out new permits... it's their way of making gliders illegal without making them illegal, yknow? I'm an art major at ECU, so it's a definite possibility. What are you majoring in?
