Walmart and Target both sell small pop-up carriers for dogs that are $20-30(depending on size). Fold flat when you aren't using them.

Latest update.. Ziggy is okay. I did not separate them, and I have not been worrying, because everything is fine-- Val's advice :). It reopened this morning :( but she said it is okay if that happens, and not to bring him back every time it opens. It opened from him running around all hyper, not him picking at it this time. Val said to let it be, so I am and trying hard not to worry..
He is on antibiotics, so that puts me at some ease, but I also want to put some kind of ointment on it to make it heal faster. I read that quickderm is the stuff to use, but couldn't find it at the store. I also read that neosporin was okay to use with them, but is it okay if he licks it off? Theres no way of me covering it up and keeping him from it. Hopefully someone knows that and answers...

My best advice for you is to stick with who you trust and are currently talking to (Val, right?) and a vet regarding the QuickDerm. I know that it has been used but I don't know if it will make the situation worse (i.e. make him really go at it trying to get the glue off).
I am just weary of steering you off in another direction if someone is already counseling you. I would talk to Val and/or the vet before using that stuff. I believe you have to order online or get at a medical supply store anyway so should give you some time to ask.

i got my emergency cage free by posting an ad on Craigslist. i think it's probably the cage you-know-who sells. Anyway, it folds flat to about 2"-3" thick, so it can slide behind a bookshelf (or their full-size cage), under a bed or sofa, etc.
