Hey, I'm going to pick up my little guy from GSG this afternoon! I've been visiting once a week for just over a month now, getting acquainted. Can't wait to finally have him home. :D (As an aside...no, he won't be gliding solo long. The plan is to get him now, bond and get him comfortable, and get a female once she becomes available.)
I just found this site a couple days ago, and I spent a lot of time checking out all the informative posts and opinions on care--and GSG. There's not a lot on here about Tina, but people seem suspicious, so I'd like to throw my two cents in here in regard to my own personal experience.
I'm one of the many that first saw gliders at a Pocket Pets presentation at the Pheasant Lane Mall, and I was intrigued, but I was very uncomfortable with the idea of impulse buying a creature I knew nothing about and the too-good-to-be-true sales pitch. So..I did my own research and learned A LOT before going ahead with my plans. I found GSG online and shot an email out into the void, not really expecting a response in any small amount of time. Tina got back to me the very next morning, and I scheduled an appointment. So far, so good.
Tina had the little male with her when we met, and we spent over an hour talking. I asked her a lot of questions, and she was more than happy to answer and offer more information. I asked about her numbers, how often the joeys were handled, this little guy's temperament and eating habits, how the parents were with him, etc. Along with giving me the information I was looking for, she ended up asking a lot of her own. She wanted to know how I'd first learned about gliders--and then what my reasons were for NOT choosing PP. She seemed pleased with my skepticism and concern (I mean, come on, there's not even a phone number for these people in case of emergencies on their site.) She also asked about my work schedule to get a grasp for how much time I'd be home to share with the lad, and spent a lot of time just learning about me, much to my surprise. I'm new to all this, so I wasn't really expecting to be checked out in turn.
Once we got to a point where I was satisfied with her and she was satisfied with me, she encouraged me to send her my work schedule for the week ahead, and emailed me her own as well so we could establish our next meeting. She said the more I could visit, the better. I work retail, so it wasn't easy, but we managed to get together once a week for the past four or five. She even asked for a shirt of mine and cut a piece off to keep in his sleeping pouch until today. I found that pretty interesting.
So here we are, and I'm going to pick up little Oberon at four this afternoon. I plan to try a lot of things with food since I know Tina only uses one recipe and a lot of people here seem to frown on that being her only selection. But hey, there a lot of suggestions and recipes here, so moving forward it's just about finding out what's right for Oberon. :)
Good luck with your little ones. I hope someone else can come away from this with a better impression of Tina and GSG with the two of us sharing our experiences.
