Hey everyone, I'm a newer owner of suggies with a 12 week oop male, Oliver. I didn't get much info on diet when I got him but like everything else I researched like crazy. There is soooo much stuff out there it is overwhelming. I ended up deciding to go with Judie's modified BML. The recipe I followed is below, is this a healthy diet for my sug, with 1tblsp of fruit & 1tblsp of veggies, and also mealworms, still unsure also how many mealworms to give daily and if I need to gut load them. Any opinions will be appreciated. He seems to be enjoying everything but the veggies. I'm sure he just needs time to adjust to them

                 Judie's Version ( B.M.L.  Diet )

****** Mix the First Group Of items Thoroughly in a ***** Blender or Food Processor *****
*1/2 cup Honey
*2 ounces Gerber Yogurt Juice (This comes in two flavors; Mixed Fruit or Banana Juice). You will have to throw away the other half of the bottle unless you double your recipe
*1ounce of apple juice (Try not to use off-brands)
*1ounce of cranapple juice Any Brand will do - You may also use Cran Cherry or Apple Cherry.
*2 jars (2 1/2 ounce each) Chicken Baby Food Stage 2
*1 Small Jar Stage 2 Sweet Potato.  If doubling your recipe, use Stage 3
*1/2 cup Mixed Cereal (Dry Baby Food) You may choose any type like Rice, Wheat, Mixed etc.,
*2 teaspoons Repcal- Phosphorus Free
*1 teaspoon Herptivite Vitamin Supplements

***********   Blend Thoroughly  ***********

Then Add
*1/4 cup Wheat Germ Comes in a Glass Jar and can usually be found next to the Cream of Wheat in the grocery store.
*1 boiled or scrambled egg with no butter or margarine. egg shell may be added to blender as well.

***The reason these are added last is because they cause the BML to be thick if whipped in too much.
***Turn on Blender for 15 seconds or until throughly mixed (Don`t over do it, it will become to thick)
Final Stage
Pour mixture into ice cube tray and freeze
One large cube feeds (2 Hefty Tablespoons in one cube) two adult gliders or in large freezeable container (1 Hefty Tablespoon per Glider)
You do not need to thaw before serving

Also, one other thing that I am concerned about it the apple juice I'm using is not from concentrate, it's 100% but it has ascorbic acid listed as the last ingredient. Do I have to worry about this??

I tried the BML diet and all mine quit eatting it after a few weeks so I changed to LGRS "suggie soup" and they LOVE it! They have now been on it for a few months and still eat it up with no issues. It also has a lot more options for fruits and veggies that you can serve with it. I choose this one because all mine but 2 are rescues comeing from bad diets. 1 of them , Emmett, was very sick when I got him. He was to the point of starving to death. He has been on this diet with a few adjustments for his needs for a month now and he is much better. He is much better now and is eatting the regular diet like everyone else. He is still small for his age but will hopefully start growing more soon. I was also able to talk to the maker of this diet, ED, to help me adjust it for Emmetts needs. They are on this site too and always willing to help!

That diet is fine. There are no 'Best diets'. Actually, the best diet for your baby is the one it eats. Mealworms? I'm the wrong person to answer because I stuff Kai. He's a bit scrawny so I feed him as many as I can get in him. I don't know. Some do maybe one or two a day. Others a few a week. We started out only giving them when we trimmed nails. Now, it's daily.

Eh... with mealworm farms you have a very real issue possible. DUSTMITES.

I would read up on this before you start.. they can cause serious health issues to other pets, YOU, and your sugar gliders.

Marine - I have never heard ANYONE mention having dust mites in their mealworm farm.

That said, dust mites are everywhere. Look under the furniture or at your bed mattress with a microscope and I guarantee you will find dust mites in those locations.

Dust mites? Wow, when I had my mealworm farm, I never thought I had dust mites. Lol Hmmm

Sarcher, I started off on your diet but mine stopped eating it. It's a fine diet. Your gliders may do very well on it. If they don't, then when that time comes, you can switch. Most of us have tried several diets for our babies. I think you're starting off great! ;)

I just had to share...I made my son breakfast this morning as I do every Saturday. Well this morning he saw faces looking at him so he reached in....Lua ran up his arm to other hand and stole his turkey bacon....he is happily eating the whole thing. Robbie just grumbled. They're too cute to be mad at.

A few bites of the turkey bacon for your glider might be OK, but you should not allow him/her to 'eat the whole thing'. There is a lot of preservatives, salt and fat in the bacon your glider does not need and may not be able to digest well.

Would you let your child eat a full rack of ribs he just grabbed off the grill?

Thank you so much to everyone who has replied, and I've also gotten in contact with judie herself!!! He seems to like it all except the veggies. He leaves them behind, and I've tried every veggie almost possible. Lol any suggestions??? He's a little thin IIII think but I could be wrong. Lol so I've been giving him 5-6 mealworms a day. I'll get pics up soon! He's so amazing though. I have so much fun with him. He's def. going thru teenage nips though, last night he tried chewing our articial tree that has real bark on it, and when I tried to stop him he bit me. Lol I had to get him out of that room. He was loving them until he realized he could chew and shred. let me tell ya, not pulling away and being chomped on is hazard lol I'm getting used to it. He got my lip one night n tried running away with it. I justk had to kick my feet as a release til he let go!! Hahaha :)
But. Any opinions on the veggies please??

Here's m advice use the original BML and don't modify it. Bourbon created it almost 15 years ago and it works great.

Feed ... watermelon, cantaloupe, blueberry, cherries, grapes
MIxed veggies and BML. !TBLSP each per glider

I have both my boys on the Bml diet and I have found that their favorite veggie is sweet peas. I get fresh ones at the store and they love to tear apart the outside to get to the peas within. Also, believe it or not, frozen carrots are a huge favorite at the moment

This is a weird mod of BML for me, I would go with the original or another diet altogether.

My entire crew is fed Judie's Modified BML. Bourbon told me that she and Judie worked together on this modification. My crew loves it and I have never had any health problems with any of my Gliders. My oldest Gliders are six years old.

Judie said the juices and such were used to mask the bitterness of the herptevite. I'm gonna continue it, if he quits eating it then ill look into one of the hpw diets or something else.... Btw... Getting my little girl tomorrow morning!! So excited :) she's same age... 13wk oop. Can't wait to see both munchkins together! Hope everyone's day is going well!
