As many already know I got my gliders a week ago Saturday and I am so confused about the diet and also a little worried

Before me they were eating
Happy Glider Pellets
1 hard boiled Egg
1 jar chicken baby food
1 jar baby fruit
(That above she said would last them a week)

ME I wanted to go with this
http://www.angelfire.com/nb/sugarglider/leadbeat.html
As for the F/V I am giving
corn, peas, carrots
pineapples, cantaloupes, strawberries, blueberries
I am giving ONE cube of Ice BML and a teaspoon of F/V

But they seem to take ONLY the Fruit and Veggies and leave almost EVERY BIT of the BML
Is this normal I am worried
Vet said they are very healthy and nothing to worry about (That was Monday)

Our little girl Ping does not seem as active as Pong her husband.
She likes to sleep A LOT

I am thinking to make a change to http://www.hpwdietcenter.com/complete1.html

BUT here is the part that scares me with all the diets ..

I have the main course whether is be the BML or the HPW .. But then they give you a LIST of diffident F/V
and say a teaspoon of each .. So do I just pick from the list and give them a few different ones from that list?

I just want to do right by them and I am so worried that I will do something wrong or annoy people with dumb questions.
Also I read here that some will put the fruit in during the day not at the feeding time at night .... Should I try that to get them to eat the main course ...

Thank You all who read and try to help me out here.

HPW Original or Instant HPW are better choices. I also tried BML and mine never ate much, and spit wads of chicken baby food out of what little they did eat. They also didn't like the VERY small list of veggies and fruits.

I use instant HPW, but mine will only take it if I mix a little applesauce into it, and/or a little plain yogurt or raw honey. Then they lick they bowl clean. The HPW is not as restricted on what you can give alongside it, and they key thing is to give a big variety and not the same thing over and over.

Ok well my husband and I are looking at the Instant-HPW
With that we would like to know..

I have 2 kids a 16 yr old and a 12 year old and they really LOVE the babies here, and like to help with the feeding so I made a BATCH of the BML and I broke it all down into snack pack freezer bags so they just grab one zip baggie and feed what is in that bag to them

So with the HPW you said the f/v is better
Any way you can give me an idea say for the following

1 Zip Lock freezer bag is a meal =
1 Frozen Cube of HPW
teaspoon of Fruit -- (Name a few I can throw in the bag)
teaspoon Veggie -- (Name a few I can throw in the bag)

I also feed meal worms

And how often can I change the f/v up so they dont get board ??

What a convenient way to store food! My girls love their f/v frozen first, then thawed. Even fresh f/v, they prefer after it was frozen, then thawed. Due to freezer space, I freeze my HPW in a large tub and scoop, I just started freezing f/v combos in cubes. I thought my dinner prep was fast and easy, but your snack packs must be even quicker.

Your question, I suggest taking your serving cube of HPW and pairing a few different combos of f/v then. You can make a rotation of your different combos of f/v that your glider/s eat and then store them in a order that alternates them so each day serves a different combo. You can mix 1 of each f/v per combo or up to a couple of each, using equal servings. I wouldn't recommend any more than that, so you have better option for variety. I also recommend making 4-7 different f/v combos. That way they can have up to a different combo for at least 4 nights before starting next rotation or different combos for up to a week prior to starting rotation. This will offer them plenty of variety. The next time you make up your combo batches, you can add some new ones to the rotation.

I too feel your pain!!

When I first got my girls, I was doing the pellet thing....*tisk* *tisk* I know! So I spent weeks losing sleep and researching until I decided to go with HPW Instant. I just started that at the beginning of the week. The girls seemed to hate it but then I started mixing a little raw honey in with it and now they eat it up! Keep that in mind in case yours seem finickey too!

As for the f/v, I had made a mango/papaya puree that they seem to HATE. Which sucks b/c I did the frozen ice cube portions too :-(

My plan is to try and go with Deb's recommendations on her website where she sells HPW Complete. I didn't buy he instant from her but I did read they are similar and need the same fruit & veggie nutrients/portions. Someone also posted a link to a website called "sweet-sugar-glider" (I think!) And on it they discuss the HPW Diet and have a bunch of suggested fruit and veggie relish/smoothie combos.

I'm afraid I don't have the links to the 2 sites as I'm on my phone (so please forgive typing errors too!). But as soon as I get to a computer, I'll add them! Unless someone beats me to the punch....lol.

I kept the pellets and leave a few in the cage as a day time snack if they want it. And they do eat them. I'm hoping to ween them off of them over time tho. I know they aren't the healthiest thing for them to have but I don't want to shock them completely when changing their diet.

Don't worry though! We'll figure this out! Its a lot of work but once we find our rhythm, the babies will thank us!

Here is the link from Deb's site. I hope both of these work for you. I'm still doing this from my phone so I'm not sure if the web pages will show in mobile format. The info is still there tho! So I hope you can find what you need!

With any of the glider staple recipes, you should be offering [b] 1 TABLESPOON fruit and 1 TABLESPOON vegetables.

Those of you using Instant HPW and HPW Complete - adding additional honey will throw the balance of these diets off. They already contain dried honey. The HPW diets contain more honey than any of the other glider staple mix recipes.

Hey Candy!

I was referring to Deb for the HPW site I listed, not sweet sugar gliders. Sorry for the confusion. As for the honey, I should have mentioned that I am only adding it in a very small amount and plan to eventually reduce it to nothing once they get used to the diet!

Thanks for the info tho. :-)

I(and my babies) really like Instant HPW from Exotic Nutrition. Its as idiot proof as it gets. When bought in bulk im pretty sure its the cheapest too.

Another thing to consider is that BML looks and smells like vomit, all of the hpws out there dont seem to smell nearly as bad. I would have to struggle not to gag when making it, but im probally the only one with this problem.

Just make sure to slowly ween them onto the instant hpw, dont just switch it up all at once. And if they dont eat it right away dont get frusturated, it will take some time for them to adjust.

A few tips tho with instant hpw and EN.

1. They recommend feeding it with pellets... Dont do that.
2. Order as much as you can at a time, there is a very hefty discount for ordering larger quantities. It stays good in powder form for up to a year.
3. Sign up for the coupon codes to be sent to your email, I use a 10% off code every time I order.
4. Buy a rubbermaid container or jar to keep it in. The zip-loc bag they send it in doesnt always seal properly. (I recently threw away about 2 pounds of it due to moisture getting in the bag and molding.)

Just wanted to vent....the zip lock bag thing sound so unfriendly to the environment :[ -cries-

So you asking questions in not dumb or stupid, keep asking. The Original HPW is a rad diet, the wombaroo for it can be purchased at http://thepamperedglider.webs.com/supplements.htm if you ever feel like feeding the original instead of instant.

I am not sure if you also mean the Original but people seem to be getting confused lately, you should feed fruits and vegetables higher in calcium with HPW Original as it is low in calcium. Since Instant is suppose to be the same as Original except for the dried stuff that should also apply.

OK so I have ordered the Instant HPW
And If I understand this right I need High calcium fruits ..

As I have a human child that has issues with low calcium I have a list on my fridge of fruit he can eat with his dinner to help that

<b>High Calcium Fruits</b>

Blackberries
Mulberries
Orange
Blueberries
Pomegranate
Prickly Pears
Elderberries
Apricots, raw
Boysenberries
Figs
Gooseberries
Raisins
Pineapple
Banana
Mango
Kiwi

So can I just pick from this list or is there ones here Gliders CAN NOT have..

And I know that the Zip bags are not great for the environment but they are recycled not just dumped in trash after use.
And it is the best way to hold a "Full MEAL" so as my kids will not give to much or to little of something ..

Too much citrus can give them "the runs" so I don't feed it to mine. Onions, spicy peppers and seasonings, garlic, and chocolate are the only things I know of you should never give to them.

Everything on your list looks OK except your gliders might not like certain things. Mine for example won't touch kiwi or strawberry or banana. They also don't like squash, zuchini, plantains, or snow peas. Yours will also have favorites and things they won't touch, so I'd feel them out before planning too far ahead. Sometimes they won't eat something they like because something they didn't like touched it, and if it was all frozen together that would be bad.

I ordered instant hpw and ENs complete pellets, my gliders are also getting different fruits and veggies each night, we're new glider parents and when we adopted them they were on pellets and apples only. It's been interesting trying to wean them off of
PP pellets, but so far so good....I made them ice cubes of kazkos diet until their hpw was delivered...I hope they take to it. I also bought ingredients for lie 2 other diets so we shall see how it goes! Best of luck, I'd love to know how your feelings go if you do go i
With instant hpw.

Instant HPW has a 2:1 cal/phos ratio. Not sure about Original.

Of course with the Instant HPW you should still maintain the 2:1 with the fruits and veggies, but BML only has 4 approved fruits and 4 approved veggies. That's what I meant by more restricted. That's a very small list.
