We are new parents of two babies(6 weeks old).....I see a huge amount of ideas and topics, food ideas, and diets, sumpluments,....I see some babies over weight, and hear some are dying due to bad diets.......WE ARE SCARED TO DEATH....Really guys...WE would love to hear a fool proof diet from someone who has raised babies for years on "sumpluments"...and not try and sell us something.
we really want to find what works and run with it,we are not lazy mind you ...but we don't wanna make mistakes and find out we could saved them with a sweet potato or something down the line....overwhelmed with info....Lexx and the (lil outlaws)

welcome to the site! Diet is one thing that confused me so much when I was getting my babies. Gliderpedia has a lot of info of the recognized and reccomended sugar glider diets such as BML, HPW.... I personally use the LGRS suggie soup. All the diets have to be supplemented with fresh fruits and veggies, and sometimes protein such as chicken.

Second, gliders need more calcium than phosphorous in their diet so you need to pair fruits and veggies together each night to make sure there is at least 1.5 times more calcium than phosphroous in what they are eating

Welcome! I will start with a warning as I do sell sample packs for the diet I feed, LGRS Suggie Soup but that is only because I wanted it to be more accessible to everyone. Anyway I have been feeding it for a few years now, my vet likes it, and it has kept my gliders healthy.

If you are not familiar with what gliders would have eaten in the wild then take a look at this article: http://www.sugarglider.com/gliderpedia/index.asp?Diet
You will find a list of diet plans at the bottom that link to recipes. These diet plans replace the nectar, gum, insects, etc. a glider would have been getting and each one uses fruits/vegetables as side items to round off any nutrients left off and they are also great for variety/enrichment for your gliders. Trying to mimic their natural diet keeps them mentally and physically healthy.

When you choose a diet plan make sure it works for you. Ask yourself some questions: Do you mind ordering ingredients online? Do you want to worry about Ca:Ph ratios? Would you rather use a nectar replacement that goes with premade fruit and veggie slushes? Would you like a diet that tells you what to do or that gives you freedom?

The reason I choose LGRS Suggie Soup is because I believe the creators have ample amounts of experience with sugar gliders, they worked with their vet to create it, and I believe it mimics their wild diet better than other diets. At the end of the video you can see my girls getting excited over their food:

Hi! Welcome to the site. It gets better :)

I personally feed LGRS suggie soup, but there is clear info on the gliderpedia on each diet.

http://www.sugarglider.com/gliderpedia/index.asp?Diet

You should read the current/recognized diets and choose one that works for you. Basically you're looking at a nectar replacement and fresh (or frozen) fruits and veggies every night.

Once you have decided on a diet you think might work ask for suggestions on where to get the items for it, there's always people around that can give you some tips whenever you need them

I would work on getting them on a nectar replacement sooner rather than later. Bread is not great for them as it will only fill them up and isn't very nutritious. Also most everyone (really everyone) around here will be against feeding your gliders any pelleted food. Gliders are naturally sap suckers and pellets are mostly garbage and fillers. I think Glider gravy is

http://www.sugarglider.com/gliderpedia/index.asp?HPWComplete

There have been some issues reported with using it like fur discoloration (which is generally bad news)

A lot of people get told to use that company's diet when they buy from them. They have been getting better about what they are telling people to feed but all 3 of the products together could very well over supplement your gliders. You can cut it down to just glider gravy nightly alongside fruit and vegetables. Glider gravy is also known as HPW Complete (which shouldn't be confused with the time tested HPW Original diet)

I would suggest for now staying with the glider gravy with some fresh fruits and veggies nightly and then after that think about switching to another nectar replacer that works best for you and your furkids.

It will definitely get you through until you order and get stuff in for a better diet, but I wouldn't recommend sticking to it for long.

I would definitely not stick to this diet. Maybe try BML, LGRS, or HPW? You can find feeding instructions in the Diet section under Gliderpedia at the top. You can feed just the Glider Gravy(aka HPW Complete) with fruits and veggies until then. http://www.hpwdietcenter.com/complete1.html

Hahaha, I am known for trying anything before I feed it to my pets. My friends always think I am crazy when they see me munching on some new doggie biscuit.

Keep us posted :) As Brittney (viciousencounters) said, she sells starter packs of LGRS so you could try it out without having to order a large supply of food before you know if it will work out!
www.etsy.com/shop/viciousencounters

She also has cool pouches and other things.
Good luck with your babies!

Ok, I'm gonna point this out for the moment....

As Vicious explained, the glidergravy PP has given you is HPW COMPLETE. Many people use this and like it very much. IMO for now, you should stick to that. I would toss the pellets.

Feed them 1tbsp. of Glider Gravy (someone correct this if I'm wrong on the serving please)

Fruits/veggies each night. Mix em up, you could do GG, peas, & watermelon one night,

GG, Carrots, Papaya
GG, Greenbeans, Mango

Ect...those are just examples. The reason I say this is because they are just babies. A big change in diet can cause some tummy upset, not to mention you are feeling a bit overwhelmed.

I would stick to this as you continue to learn and investigate. It will get easier in time and you will get the hang of it, it just seems overwhelming at the moment. I know PP has told you to avoid such sites as this and I give you Kudos for ignoring that and seeking some good knowledge for your little ones. This is just the start. You can search topics up top and pull up a ton of past threads that can help guide you, and we are always willing to answer questions.

YEP!

Just kidding..... Don't give them cocoa, garlic, onions.

You can give them their veggies raw or cooked (no seasoning)...all depends on how they like them. Some gliders like pieces and chunks, others don't so we blend them up.

It's trial and error. One glider may love Collard Greens and another won't touch them no matter how you prepare them.

Celery isn't a big hit with mine.... broccoli can make them a bit gassy.

I get a Spring Mix and grind it up in my Magic Bullet and add it to their scrambled egg omlette. They gobble it up.

Many gliders love sweet potatoes. I've heard they are best prepared by puncturing some holes and nuking it until a bit tender.

What staple are you currently feeding your little guy?

Depending on that, your choices of F/V can be limited.

I too got my first 2 from PP. What I did, and would do is toss the pellets. I gave them to the wild birds. You can still use the glider gravy...it is nothing more than HPW COMPLETE. With that you can offer an array of F/V...it's not restrictive in that way.

Oh, I thought you were using CapLocks to make sure we could hear you...my bad! Just kidding!

You should have a setting button somewhere on your computer....mine is in the upper right corner and looks like a cog....click it and you can adjust your screen size. I know I'm at the point if I don't put on a pair of reading glasses I have to adjust to about 125-130% to see the font!
