They are crocheted out of yarn. I don't advise giving yarn to gliders as their nails can get caught in it and cause injuries but I know people that do use yarn and don't have any problems. I personally don't want to take the chance.

I'd categorize yarn as being arguably safe during supervised play time, since the only real risk is of them getting caught/snagged on it and you'd be right there to get them free immediately... imo, though, definitely not worth the risk of leaving it in the cage full-time.

Yep who would've that yarn would ever become such a debatable subject. I think it's pretty much left up to personal preference.
