Today while I was gone I don't know why but I had issues with 3 out of my 5 gliders... :(
one of my sugar Gliders (Sheila) got her back foot stuck in the corner of her bag. Her foot is now going to need to be amputated, does anyone know how that is going to affect her? Am I ever going to be able to put her with another glider? Or should I leave her by herself?

And I have a brother sister pair together and today both of there tails have been chewed on. The boys is rubbed raw and the girl chewed hers to the bone, both towards the back. What would cause them to do that? Should I separate them? how do I keep them from continuing to do that? It's the first tome I ever had any of my gliders do this...

I feel positively awful, if anyone has any ideas of what I could do it would b greatly appreciated... thanks

I have met several amputees and they do fine. I am sorry you are going thru this. Any ideas exactly how she hurt herself and how to prevent it happening again?

Paigie - check out The Sweet Spot. Its a medical forum. You will find a section on amputations with information and other people's experiences. There is also info regarding the self mutilation. I'm on my phone or I would give you the link. Google it....it's a forum motion site. Please go look...you wil be glad you did. That's why it is there.
I hope all goes well!

On a side note, I have a little girl with a front, right arm amputation and she gets along just fine. Watching her cope has been a huge inspiration to me, she's doing much better than I ever thought she would - she's so strong! You shouldn't have to separate her permanently, but please do keep her separated until she has healed completely after the surgery (you don't want to risk a cage mate tearing open the incision site).

Please keep us updated and let us know how she is doing, hang in there. =)

Everything went great! Although she's not fond of her little e-collar I made her out of x ray film, but otherwise then that she just fine. She is adapting very well she still even is playing on her wheel and running around her cage like a nut

yesterday I had to take Sheila's mini e-collar off, she had pushed it so far up on her neck that her face had become swollen :/ but no more than 10mins after the collar was off she was back to normal. She hasn't messed with her stitches at all which is good, and she is adapting very well to her new "lifestyle"... today she was even back to playing on her wheel like normal again! I never realized how well sugar gliders actually adjust to new things/ surroundings, but I guess I should have figured this when she had bonded the fastest out of all my other gliders! If everything goes well and her leg has heeled enough her stitches can come out this coming Wednesday, so fingers crossed!
