I walked by Rose the other day and she looked a little funny. Then I noticed what seemed to be a string of saliva hanging from her mouth - looking exactly like white, human mucus does. It dropped off and I wasn't sure what exactly it was. Then I noticed her doing the same thing again today. I can't remember if she was making any noises while she was doing it (I don't think she was, though) and she didn't seem bothered by it either. But I'm worried because if it is vomit, then something is probably wrong. Has anyone heard of this before? I'm taking her to the vet on Wednesday which is the soonest I can get her in.

I've been monitoring her closely since the death of her sister. Well I went to clip her nails today and let her get out her initial waking up excrements, which were normal. Then when I started to clip her nails, she immediately let out poop that was like BML. Once that was out, she let out on green poop. Is this considered normal, or is it more cause for concern?

I've also seen her up a little throughout the day. What would be considered normal as far as being up when she's supposed to be sleeping?

the mucus and the drastic change in her stool is concerning.
Call your vet...they ususally will make time for an "emergency"...I definitely would not wait until tomorrow.

Good luck and keep us posted on her condition.

The poop and saliva is definitely not normal!! Being up a little during the day can be normal behavior, but if its a drastic departure from her typical behavior then it could be an additional sign that something is wrong. If you absolutely can't get her in to the vet until Wednesday please keep a close eye on her for signs of dehydration. You may want to start supplementing her with Pedialyte now to try and stay ahead of the inevitable dehydration. Good luck and please keep us informed. I know how much little Rose means to you.

This is going to sound redundant but she needs to see a vet asap. I know you say you can't get her in to your vet until Wednesday but I'm sure there have to be emergency vets that you can go to. Take this list to any vethttp://www.gliderkids.com/VET_consultants.pdf . Thee vets will only consult with other vets.
I wonder if the poop color was because it was 'stress poop'. I'd def get a fecal too. Please keep us posted.

I just checked her for dehydration and she's perfectly hydrated. Her ears are perky, eyes are clear and open, nose is pink. All other signs of sickness are absent so it's just the poop and vomit, which are still definitely signs for concern. I wish I could get her in sooner, but I'm basically combining a vet trip with a trip to go get her new friend, and we're leaving around 4 or 5 am tonight/tomorrow. I would have left today, but there were some things that still needed to be taken care of. When I checked her for dehydration, I noticed this on her pouch:

I'm definitely getting more worried. I'll keep you all posted on what happens when I go to the vet.

I actually just woke up about 45 minutes ago (so around 7:45 here), so I'm hoping I won't be too sleepy. But I'll definitely be checking on her lots. Any ideas for food I can give her during the ride to keep her hydrated?

A couple vets I have talked to did not know a glider could vomit. They can. I have seen it. A vomiting glider is one that is very near death. Vomiting and loose poops can take a full grown human to a quivering mass pretty quick. imagine how fast it will finish a glider. Wednsday is a long time to wait for treatment when you are that ill. I am not saying you are a bad person, just that your glider is near death and needs treatment quickly or there will be no need to obtain a friend for her.

I wish you luck! I hope little Rose can hang in there long enough for the vet to see her and fix her all up! You will definitely have to be extra cautious about hand washing and all the possibilities for cross contamination you are going to run into! Please post as soon as you get a chance!

I know she's at risk right now. I hate it and I do want to be able to get her in sooner, but it's just not possible for me. She'll be at the vet at 8 AM, which is the fastest I could get her in with everything that's been going on. I've been watching her closely still. It is incredible to me that she seems so completely healthy, when it's so possible that something is horribly wrong.

I just checked her for dehydration again. Still no signs. She went pee and her poop is mostly normal, though it appears to be a few shades lighter than it should be. It's a color that's like the in between of BML and a dark brown. What is a normal color for poop? Right now, I'm doubting that I know the answer.

Behaviorally, she is starting to act a bit skittish towards me again. She's actually beginning to act similarly to how she did before her sister died. Since her sister died, she has been really sweet, a lot more trusting, and very willing to interact with me. At this point, I'm not sure what normal behavior for her should be. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I just cleaned out her water bottle, and in doing so I took a piece of paper towel and stuffed it up the metal tube that the water comes down. When I removed the paper towel, I saw lots of black flecks of stuff - yuck! So I soaked it in half water, half vinegar to try and decontaminate it and did the test again after rinsing. I still had those flecks so I tried to get rid of as much as I could. I put water in the bottle again and did a water test. Those black flecks were coming out into the water. It's very likely that this is contributing to her and her sister's illness. I'll be getting a new water bottle for her after I take her to the vet. For now, she'll have to drink out of a food dish.

I'm basically going to document what I see here in case future cases like the one I'm having arise. I want others to have an accurate case to compare their gliders to. If anyone has other things they'd like me to document about this case while I'm at it, just let me know.

I'm not trying to sound mean but do you switch water everyday/every other day. With your new bottle make sure and give fresh water everyday. If your using tap water switch to bottled (I know some cant) or boil them water to get bacteria and the yuck out of tap water.

Normal poop color can really vary based on diet. When I feed them the white yogies they have a very light pooh, almost whitish in some spots. At other time their poop is almost chocolate in color. I think consistency of stool may be a better indicator then color when determining whether they are ill or not. I hope you are well on the way to the vet, if not there already.

Btw, I have 3 water bottles and I do not change them daily. Now I'm concerned!

The "black flecks" are most likely mold. I switched to the bird type water dispensers, you have to fill it each day, but that way you know it's all fresh. You should was your water bottles and the spouts, especially the spouts, that is where bacteria builds up

another thing that could cause the black flecks is the gasket in there. i have had in the past a gasket that starts to fall apart or something and black flecks come off. either way, like you already plan to do, it is a good idea to just replace the bottle. Keep us posted on what the vet says.

I got a trough style water bottle like this there are different sizes (I got a large size). It is a simple design and easy to clean/ rinse out. I highly recommend it!

For the water issue, I change the water every other night (i use bottled water). I do a deep clean and sanitize on my water bottle once a week and i use a q-tip to get up in the metal tube carefully to get it cleaned out. I also use a bird water basin for them to drink out of which is really easy to clean and you can see every centimeter of it inside and out.

I haven't been washing every few days. I've been waiting for the water to come close to out before changing it, though when I do put in more water, I clean it and do the paper towel thing. Now I'll definitely be cleaning it every other day or so, and thank you jade for the q-tip bit! I never would have thought of that.

And to update on Rose... The vet said everything looked the way it should. He did a fecal and nothing came up, he checked her vitals and everything was healthy, including her weight. He thinks all of it was just caused by stress, but he gave me some probiotics to administer to her, just to help level everything out. I'm feeling ridiculously relieved that my Rose is fine. I'm still going to keep watching her to monitor her progress and if anything goes bad, I'll be giving him a call to go from there, but for now the future is looking bright .

Also, thanks to whoever told me about care credit! That thing is incredible! While my vet bill wasn't nearly as terrifying as I feared it would be, the care credit is a much nicer alternative than needing to pay everything up front, and it'll keep some food on my table for a little bit longer.

i use the bird trough water dispensers also. since they hold less, i just put 2-3 on each cage. i usually fill them each day on my way out to work, along with feeding fish, water for the gecko, water and food for the birds. i have to make it all a habit and then it gets done every day in order, lol

I'm so glad to hear this about Rose! Did you find the one you were looking at getting to be her friend?

Edit: I'm off to clean my water bottles...

I'll look into getting one of those troughs. I just worry because she doesn't like drinking water when I put it in a dish, so I might have to see if she would still drink it.

And yes, Rose's new friend is now with me! I'll be posting pictures of him once he's had a little time to settle in and get to know me - I don't want to stress him by pushing him and it's become more and more evident that patience is a major factor in building a great relationship with a suggie. And to the edit, Avbjessup
