My glider Kiwi got an unknown skin disease about two months ago and we didn't think she'd make it. She had biopsies taken and sent to the only board certified exotic animals pathologist in the U.S. He couldn't even identify what she had. She had scabby, infected wounds all over her body and lost about 70% of her fur. Antibiotics and skin creams given to us by the vet only made things worse. I decided I had to take matters into my own hands if I wanted her to live. I started a regimen of iodine mixed with water in the evening and vitamin E oil in the morning. She was cured within three weeks! I would take about one to two ounces of warm water and drop several drops of iodine in it until it was the color of weak tea....then take a cotton swab and dab it on her wounds. Then in the morning I would take a comb and comb out the scabs, even if it took some fur off in process. Then i would rub vitamin E oil on the wounds. Its actually good for their system, incase they digest some:) The diluted iodine would kill the bacteria and dry up the wound. The vitamin E oil would then heal the skin and help the fur grow back quicker. The Vet was shocked at her progress and is recommending my regimen to his patients for now on. It really works! She is also only six months old so age doesn't matter. I hope this helps someone! My little girl has a full beautiful coat of fur now and no scabs or wounds. I'm a happy mama!

Hmm. Don't know what the Sweet Spot would say about that. It might be worth posting there too. I just use Vetericyn on wounds. Is the mixture safe around the eyes, mouth?

I've never had to go through it with a glider, but I had a puppy that saw three different veterinarians, all giving me something different, none of which was helping her. I came up with my own "medicine" for her too, and she's alive & well now..I don't usually recommend it, but when your baby is hours away from death & nothing else is working, you do anything that comes to mind and hold onto hope. I'm glad your little one made it!
