My girlfriend and I want to get two sugar gliders, a boy and a girl (The boy for me and the girl for her). I want the boy to be my buddy who is always with me and she wants the same. Of course I want him to like her 2 but I want him to be mainly mine and she wants hers to be mainly hers. Ok the question is, is this possible??? we are going to house them together and we will be holding each others. will one mainly bond to me and one mainly bond to her? will it be ok if she had hers on her all day and I had mine all day and they didn't see each other all day and when they finally do see each other are they going to be alright?

I hope I am saying this right. I will appreciate any insights or advice!!!

My experience with animals has been that they pick their favorites not the other way around

You could try to do what you are posing but really there is no reason why they shouldn't bond well to both of you and then you just carry the one you want around with you. They would be fine in individual pouches with you each for several hours a day, but you should let them sleep together, uninterrupted (in their cage), for at least 6 hours per day.

Do you two live together? They will need to share a cage at one of your homes if not.

I hate to mention the unthinkable, but have you considered who would get both gliders in case you two break up? It would be a cruel thing to break up a bonded pair, so one or the other of you would need to take them both or you should consider rehoming them. Not saying this will happen, but you never know! Sign a Suggie prenup!

Definitely something to think about (not that anyone wants to). A friend of mine got a rabbit with her boyfriend, she lived at home and the rabbit lived with him. They broke up and she could not keep the rabbit and the boyfriend could not keep him anymore either (moved or something). They had to re-home him. Also, if you get a male and a female get a neutered male or have him neutered.

@Avbjessup Thanks for responding! Yes we live together. well yes we both want to be bonded to them both very well and yea I could just carry the one I wanted and she could carry the one she wants. and dont get me wrong, we would def. switch off. some times I will have both and sometimes she would have both. lol Suggie Prenup haha . We been together for 5 years and still doing GREAT! but you are right you never know. We would def. not split them up if anything happened with us! The Suggies would have plenty of time sleeping together while were at work!! Thanks for helping. If you could think of anything else just let me know.

@Sara Sue yes he will be neutered. Thanks for helping! if you can think of anything else let me know please!

I think they will be okay to be in separate bonding pouches, but they say to make sure that they get 6hrs of uninterrupted sleep in their cage during the day. I think you will LOVE LOVE LOVE your new suggies. They are great little animals. If you look in the "gliderpedia" under diet you can look through some of the recommended glider diets and pick one that will suit you. Since you don't have the babies yet, it would be a good time to pick one and order/buy an necessary ingredients that you may not be able to get in your local grocery store. You can ask lots of questions here, the people have loads of information and (for the most part) everyone is very nice in their responses. Also, this would be a good time to do some research on cages to see what kind you'd like to get (I have a critter nation for my 4). Oh and....BEWARE....sugar gliders are addictive!!

I second this! When my boyfriend moved in with me recently, one of my dogs immediately "adopted" him as his own, neither he nor I had any say in the matter! I'm sure if you both spend enough time with them (and presumably with each other), it will all work out well. And congratulations on your new future family!

I third this! "My" puppy was an anniversary gift from my hubby. I feed him, take him to the groomers, took him through puppy school, work with him daily...... he's my hubby's dog through and through regardless!!! LOL!!! Pets just seem to choose with no regard for us humans.

Congrats on your soon to be suggie slavery!!!

What names have you chosen? You will have to man up and take their bite if they do bite you. You don't want to teach them that biting gets them something (like left alone). And never, ever physically discipline a glider. I recently read where someone squeezed a glider to get it to stop biting. Please don't believe anyone who tells you it's ok to do anything more than make a tsst sound, or blow on them if they bite. The best reaction is no reaction, that way they quickly learn biting does no good. The bites really aren't all that bad...you can take it!
