I love all animals and am currently looking to adopt/buy two (maybe three) sugar gliders. I almost had a trio but it consisted of two females and an intact male. Previous owner was not sure if the females were already pregnant or not and I was concerned I would end up with more males to neuter or be unable to care for up to four additional gliders. so I had to turn her down.
The closest on petfinder is four hours away so I am checking other sites/forums that I've seen mentioned on other threads here.
Why I am choosing to get sugar gliders:
I spent the last month raising a chipmunk (Bandit) that I found on the side of the road. (believed to be pulled from nest by a snake). Rehab advised me how to temporarily care for it and when to know it was time for the animal to leave. Well... it was time for him to go.
That left me with a large four foot tall cage that I was housing Bandit in, empty. I do not live alone and house mates are uncomfortable with me getting rats for the cage so I did some research on alternative animals. After a few weeks I have narrowed it down to sugar gliders (to which the house mates are in acceptance with).
Preparation:
I already have a cage, but I can easily attach a second one to it to make the cage larger. I researched proper care and what vets are in the area but have not made a final selection on what vet I will use. I ordered a hanging toy set so the glider would have toys aside from the corner mounts to jump between. and I ordered some HPW complete powder(but it isn't here yet). fruits and Veggies are a constant around here so nothing to worry about there.
