So Raes was neutered a week ago. He was doing great, then pulled all his stitches out on the way out to the car. Tonight I took his e jacket off finally. He's been doing great with it off during play time so I figured I'd try a night without and see how he does..... he ripped it open again!!! The little turd!! I spoke to the vet, put the e jacket back on ( and received a nice bite for my trouble), and it's back in to the vet in the morning..... sigh... When I called the vet he said " Ah, sugar gliders. Such wonderful, adorable, amazing creatures." LOL I sure hope the boys aren't this hard when we get them done next month!! Please say a prayer for Hraesvelg? I wouldn't mind a few too, this boy is making momma crazy!!

Did your vet do Pom off or Pom on? It seems that I've noticed a lot more people reporting SM complications with Pom off. My vet does Pom on with laser so it doesn't even require stitches. May be something you might want to ask him about for your future boys?

Hmm, it was indeed a pom off. I'll talk to him about it tomorrow, thanks!
I'm actually thinking it was because of the sutures. The vet had to put him back under and put extra stitches in and they were visible. I'm thinking he finally got time alone in the pouch and went, "what's that? I'll just pull that out of there." * rip*
These gliders will be the death of me! I sure do love em though!!

I think the sutures are one of the biggest reasons they mess with the site, shock is why Pom on tends to go better. Ask him and see, hopefully that will eliminate some future battles for you guys! Best of luck, hope your little one heals up quickly.

My vet told me the same thing about the Pom on/Pom off situation out get rid VERY small stitching that dissolved and a little glue over it and mine were fine. He still has his Pom. Just shooting blanks we'll be getting our Joey done as soon as he reaches age.

Sheldon had Pom off same day as Raes but fortunately for us he's been complication free! Internal stitches with a little glue and we are good! I'm saying prayers for you and him, little bugger! BTW, my vet says he hates to neuter gliders...surgery can go beautifully and then the boy decides to tear it up...we got lucky!

The one vet that neutered my boys pom on, didn't put any stitches or glue on the site. Just left it alone and they did fine.

The one glider that I had that went after his pom off site was in an ejacket for over 2 weeks.

You may want to keep the little buggar jacketed up so he can't go after himself again.

The vet started by doing the same as Sheldon, but when Raes ripped all the stitches out and he went back in he decided to put different stitches in. I think it was because of the damage. We're heading out to the vet in just a little bit. I'll keep you guys updated on his condition. Thanks so much for your prayers!

Just updating, got Raes into the vet this morning and it turned out to not be nearly as bad as it looked. Doc said to keep the e jacket on until things look healthy again, but no additional stitches were needed and he looked good! The biggest concern is him getting at it again, which the jacket will prevent.

Here's a question though, I'm letting him spend time with his family ( extremely supervised of course) will he be ok to go back to them again if he has to stay separated for a few weeks? I mean, if I keep up with supervised play time will I be able to put him right back in with his family once he's healed?

Another reason why I am only sticking with females, I don't wanna risk anything happening to a male after getting fixed. XD

Some vets have little tricks they use....I know my boys were glued shut, and even then the incision was tiny. They never touched it. There are vets that will happily consult with another vet - maybe yours would appreciate the chance if the whole glider thing is still fairly new? I know mine did - she called prior to her first neuter & all went great!

My thought is that he will be fine going back with his family once you have the ok but maybe someone else will have better insight. Glad to hear he is doing better than expected. I can't imagine having to separate them this long. Is it noisy in your house at night?

Sorry it took so long to respond, my internet's been down and it's a pain to reply from my phone...

I can't tell if it's any noisier than normal! We have 6 gliders, plus the cats and 2 dogs, plus 2 little kids, so it's ALWAYS noisy at my house!!

Raes is doing really well! He's healing quickly and I'm hopeful that everyone will be back together by next Sunday. (Provided he behaves!)

I figured it could be quite a ruckus with all the barking going on wanting him back with them!. I hope they are properly reunited before too much longer!
