I just got my glider about a month ago and I believe he is around the same age, he bit every time we tried to do anything with him. When we got him the people who had him only held him by pretty much squeezing him tight and not letting him move, we tried very hard not to do that and would not restrict him if we didn't absolutely need to. After two weeks he pretty much stopped biting for the most part even though we're still not bonded he is soo much sweeter now.. Just be patient.

Please don't hold them tight and don't yell at them - they need to learn to trust you. It's only been 2 days, new home, new smells - it takes patience:)

you probably need to wait a bit before trying to hold your new glider. Best way to help them get over being scared of you (and that's why they bite) is take the sleeping pouch with him in it out of the cage and into the bathroom. make sure all holes are covered, the toilet seat is down and they are no ways to escape.bring treats with you. Let your glider decide when to come out and look around, offer treats quietly. after a few days of this, he will know that you won't hurt him and have treats. he will probably start climbing on you, pet him slowly when he does that so he knows you are a good thing.

Hi, and welcome. Just a few facts for a newbie:
Most sugar gliders do not like to be picked up or "held".

Never make loud noises at them- if they are doing something you don't like(biting) making the "tssst" sound usually stops them.

Give them a few days to adapt to their new surroundings. Sit near their cage and read or talk to them in a soft voice-this gets them used to your voice.

I accidentally hit enter on previous post- and I see I'm not the first to offer these tidbits of advice. Get a piece of fleece and sleep with it or wear it in your clothes a day or 2, then put it in your babys' cage. I also washed my bonding pouch and wore it inside out under my clothes and slept with it too. That way, it had my scent on the Inside of the pouch. Wear them in the bonding pouch a few hours a day, stroke them through the pouch and talk quietly to your baby. Don't jump back or jerk your hand back if he crabs at you. Its trying to scare you in defense. Warning, yes you probably will be bitten afew more times in this process.Try letting him lick a little yogurt from your finger, I offered it on my knuckle bent as it was harder for them to bite me that way. After a few times with the yogurt, Ming let me stroke her head. Also, meal worms are a treat most cannot resist. They are the perfect bribe for a glider-lol Suggies need to trust you and they are not dogs or cats and if you expect them to be trained or cuddly like one, they are not the pet for you. My girls have their own unique personalities. Ming likes petting and stroking. Maxine likes to be on me jumping and playing, and she grooms me every day, nibbles my ear and is so,so gentle in those things. Accept a suggie for who they are, learn their favorite things, provide them with good habitat, food and toys and you will bond. Bonding with Ming took me over 6 months and the dear little thing is worth every minute! These good people here on GG will never steer you in the wrong direction- I have learned so much here and count them as my Glider Family.Sorry this was so long. Good luck to you and your fur baby!
