Can you have a breeding pair of gliders in a cage with 3-4 other neutered male gliders if they are properly introduced, or would they fight when the female came into heat ( or whatever these little fur balls do (estrus))? Just curious. My entire colony will likely be neutered with separate breeding cages somewhere else.

Also, what is a common size (pieces) for a cage set? I saw one that had 22pc for $60.
Do you know of anyone who sells larger ones? I'd Like to buy from vendors/hobbyists and support them and not some huge company.

They go into heat about once a month, although unless you know your female(s) VERY well, it's very difficult to tell when it happens. No, you should not have that many males in a cage with one female, whether or not the males are neutered. It's not a good idea to have that many males in a cage with one female. Colonies work better when there are more females than males, or when there is an equal number of males to females. There is a good chance the males would fight over her. Also, look at this from the female's perspective. Is she really supposed to satisfy the urges of 4-5 males? That's not cool. Because neutering gliders doesn't mean they don't have sex. Males will still be interested in sex, they just won't be able to produce offspring.

DISCLAIMER: I only have female gliders (two of them). I did a lot of research when I got my second girl. I wasn't sure if I should get just one glider, an established pair, a male, a female, or what when I was trying to find Luna a companion(s). So everything I've just said is based on research that I've done, not personal experience with larger, mostly male colonies.

I know the user here viciousencounters makes cage sets. She has an Etsy site, or you can likely PM her about it. I've bought from her before, as have others on GG. She isn't the only one, many other users here make toys/pouches/cage accessories. Google can easily turn up loads of vendors. Cage set sizes vary based on the size of the cage and the amount of gliders the cage set is intended for. Many vendors have set sizes/prices for cage sets, and many (viciousencounters will do this, I know) will happily custom make you a cage set if you speak with them about it.

This situation usually only works if the males are sons of the colony and neutered very early (as in, as soon as it is safe, 10 to 12 weeks or so). There are some people who have situations where this works, but I would never risk it with unrelated males, you can end up with some serious fighting on your hands. If you want a large colony, it would really be a much better idea to just neuter the male you have now, and start blending a larger pet-colony, then keep your lineaged breeding pair(s) separate.

On a side note, I also make cage sets and can do them in whatever size you want, with whatever accessories. There are a few pictures of my work in my profile you can check out or PM me for more details.

I do have a happy family colony with mom, dad, 3 male and 1 female offspring. The get along very well. The boys were all neutered at about 4 months of age and dad was neutered before the last joeys were OOP. Dad was interested in mating for a few months after his neuter, but seems to have lost interest. Having the boys in the cage was never an issue and there has been no fighting among them.

I also have a colony that has 5 unrelated gliders, 2 neutered males and 3 females that get along quite nicely. These boys were neutered very young and I have never seen any mating behavior with these gliders.

My trio colony has 2 neutered males and one female. The boys were adults when they were neutered. The were rescues and the oldest male is believed to be the father of the other male and the female. I do see some mating behavior in this cage now and then with both males wanting to mate with the female but the behavior usually does not last long and there have not been any injuries or fighting.

I make cage sets and am willing to make you whatever size sets and pieces you need/want. Some of my stuff is in the classified section. You can send me a e-mail and I can send you some more info. Usually have them done in 3-4 days at most and can do them in the pattern or colors you choose.
