I have 6 gliders, 2 are in one cage (neutered male and female) and 4 in the other (neutered male, female, and their 2 9 week old sons who will be neutered next month). The male from the 4-glider group is separated due to neuter complications right now.

I would like to combine these guys into one large group. I know my cage is plenty big enough (6 ft long, 4 ft tall, 2 ft wide). I also know it will be at least 2 months before I can even start to attempt it. Raes needs to heal and the boys need to be neutered and heal. I'm just curious if I need to wait until the boys are full grown before I can start trying to combine the cages or if there's a certain age they'll be old enough?

Also, the second cage is not in my glider room right now. Will I be ok to have everyone in the same room or should I cover the cage so they can't see each other? They used to be in the living room together, but I had cage covers on both cages. I'd really like everybody in the glider room where cleaning is easier and everything is more secure and glider safe.

On a similar note, is it ok to have open play time with the gliders in their room? I mean, if Vili or Ve jump onto Raes' cage am I going to have issues? Should I have cage covers for play time?

Raes and his mate, Ro, have been with me since the end of November. The joeys came oop on St Patricks Day, and I got my first set (Vili and Ve) on Labor Day weekend of last year.

Thanks!

You can try combining the cages when everyone is neutered and healed. You can also place both cages in one room as long as you cover and observe the gliders while out You could place mesh type screen over the front of the cage making sure they can not get to the edges of the screen to avoid issues.

Stsrt swapping cage items like blankets, toys, pouches that are scented now and in a few weeks even switch cages. This way everyone is familiar with each others scents. When you introduce them do it in a dry bathtub or tent this way it is a neutral spot and you can grab them if needed easily. After they are introduced I place them into a travel cage to sleep for the day making sure no issues break out. At night I add them to a fresh clean cage with lots of new things to play with and several feed dishes. In your cage like 3-4 feed dishes.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks. I am watching this also as we got 2 gliders about four and a half months ago and just got 3 more this past Sunday. All input is helpful.

Are the boys going to be old enough by the time everyone's neutered and healed to start combining with the other two? I don't want anyone hurt.

Am I reading right that I can go ahead and place the other two in a cage without a cover in the same room, as long as I cover the cage when they're out playing? What kind of mesh are you referring to? My large cage is made with plastic hardware mesh, is that enough?

I would cover it just in case and then maybe slowly open it up a bit.
