Ok, I have TWO glider safety questions for experienced owners!

1)Has anyone used this before? It seems like it would be awesome for them to climb all over. I have a short tailed opossum and he has one and loves it. I know gliders chew a lot more than those guys though. Anyway, thoughts??

2) What are your opinions on the concrete perches they make for birds to keep their nails filed down? Would these be safe for sugar gliders? They're great for keeping bird nails filed down and I was wondering if it would be the same for gliders.

I am aware that sugar gliders are not opossums, birds or reptiles. Please do not tell me that. Also please do not tell me that sugar gliders actually are opossums. They're possums. There is a difference. I promise.

thanks

I think the bend a branch looks awesome. If it is safe to be in a the glider cage, then they would love it. However, I'm not sure if that material is safe for them. A review said that crickets eat it, so if a glider did decide to bite into it, they could do damage, and possibly ingest the material easily. I couldn't find anything stating what it's made out of. I think it might be better just to use fleece ropes since you know that they are safe for gliders. The concrete perches I would think would be okay since the gliders don't have to be on it, but it is possible that prolonged contact with the concrete could hurt the gliders' paws. It's definitely possible it could help cut down on the nails, but I think it would be better to just get a wheel insert to file down the nails instead.

I just read your link and also some reviews, it looks like the stuff crumbles off and is not easy to clean and I could not find what it is actually made of.

a review from the site, quote"i love these vines! all of my pets have these, which consists of 2 crested geckos and a whites tree frog. they look very naturalistic, and arboreal animals love climbing on them. there are a few down sides though. 1) the branches are not sturdy at all. when you put them in, they'll wobble a lot, especially when a heavy weighted lizard like a crestie jumps on it. 2) it pretty hard to clean with out getting your room all dirty. the textured flakes will fall down not only on my crestie's paper towel akin it look dirty, but on the floor so i have to clean that up too. other than that these vines are great. I've also ran a slit rubber band through a suction cup and tied that to the branch, so it can stay in the air."

I would be afraid the suggies would ingest it or it wouldn't support the weight of them jumping on it, and for the bird perches they are expensive and wouldn't help your suggies toenails stay trimmed any ways.

Concrete and sand perches made for birds do not help with glider claws. They are designed for birds that side step back and forth on the so the tips of their nails rub along them for the filing action.

Gliders might hop onto a perch, but they most often just use them as a place to sit or to jump from. They don't do much for their nails but are probably safe to use.
