I'm adopting two gliders that are three years old. They were used as breeders, but I will not be breeding them. The breeder herself is bonded with the gliders. When I bring them home will they be ok with contact/holding pr will it be like having unbounded joeys?
you will need to bond with them like you bond with any animal.. give them time to adjust and what not. They may be more likely to grow to love you but you cannot assume they will just be easy. :)
A well socialised adult can be far easier to bond with than joeys. I breed gliders and the breeding male I bought at 2 years old was eating out of the palm of my hand (literally!) within an hour of bringing him home. He was more accepting of me the first day than some of my joeys are before they leave.
I have no intentions on breeding. They just finished weaning a Joey. The neuter appointment is for the 12th. If they do get pregnant again will they be able to live with the Joey or will I have to find a cage mate for the baby when weaned?
If you do not intend on breeding then you need the dad neutered and if the joey is a male him as well.. If it is a female its ok to keep them together BUT ONLY IF DAD IS NEUTERED! If you do not they WILL breed... doesnt matter if it is his daughter, he will try!
I am neutering the male. The only date that was available was the 12th of May. Please know I do NOT want to breed. But if it happens before the neuter date there is nothing I can do but care for the Joey.
