PeanutandSid Glider 56 Posts Never mind. I got my answer from my mentor. Seems like any time I have a question Candy is the only one who responds and Im sure she's busy and cant respond everytime in a timely manner. Not her fault. But I would think someone else, admin or anyone else with more experience than I, would. This is suppose to be a help and info site, I thought. Seems like if your not in "the click" you may never get the help you seek here. My question wasn't about pouches or something trivial, considering it was a medical question and had NO response in 2 days...well it's just sad. Sorry if this offends you...it should. Leela Goofy Gorillatoes 2919 Posts I wasn't aware there was a "click" here... I think what happens is we all have different amounts of experience so we answer the questions we feel confident and have enough knowledge or experience to answer. So perhaps no one knew the answer to your question so no one was able to answer. The "trivial" questions are still very valid questions and for some of us easier to answer because we actually have experience with those questions. We're not vets and some of us have never had the same medical issues with our gliders that are being asked about. Therefor we just don't know the answer and don't want to give bad advice or be responsible for something going wrong with your glider. That doesn't mean were not following the thread to try and learn, which brings me to my next point. What is helpful to Everyone is...... if the person posting the question finds the answer off site would then post the information/answer here so we can also learn something from the post even if we couldn't offer any advice. Which you didn't do. Topic boards are for sharing information and passing along things we learn as we go. There are many threads I have never posted on, but I have learned from. Someone else could have benefited from YOU posting the answer you found from an outside source. To be quite honest I hardly ever see any admin posting in the threads. Besides Kazko (i think that's the owners name) I don't even know of any other admins because I don't see the threads being monitored by anyone. I'm only aware of the owners name because of a username change question that came up recently. I do see the average glider owners with various amounts of experience posting. I also see different level of experienced people still learning new things. And how are we supposed to know if you have less experience than I do or someone else does? Why should anyone be offended for not being qualified to answer a medical question?were not VETS. So what was the answer to your question? Candy Cuddle Bear FL, USA 8110 Posts I thought I had replied - but sometimes I type a reply and miss the send button for some reason. It was not a helpful answer because I am not a vet and have almost no experience with medicating gliders for specific problems. My reply was to call your vet and verify the instructions if you were not sure about it. quote: But I would think someone else, admin or anyone else with more experience than I, would. You are not alone thinking that this forum has someone available 24/7 to reply to questions. I have seen many questions followed in less than an hour by "why haven't you answered yet?" I think many folks misunderstand the forum. This forum has no moderators and depends on individuals to reply to questions based on their own knowledge or experiences. Traffic on ALL of the glider forums has dropped significantly since so many folks have moved on over to Facebook for their glider discussions. This in unfortunate. On Facebook the discussions are not organized by topics and old posts or discussions cannot be looked up by topic to see if the question has already been asked and answered. Face book allows posts to be deleted (if the owner does not like the answer even if it is a valid one) and TALK ABOUT CLICKS - if your replies do not meet the page owner's expectations you can just be "unfriended". The information you might need is also scattered all over the hundreds of glider facebook pages out there instead of a searchable forum. I do try to respond to most questions because I am one of the last remaining owners on this forum that have had gliders for over 5 years. Cora is another long time owner that stops by to share her experience but I do not think she reads the forum daily. Kazko is the forum owner - he pays for the forum service and maintains the site but I am not sure he visits daily to reply to questions. If you click on "Members" at the top of the forum you can see the number of posts for each member of the forum, when they last posted and when they joined the forum. The forum depends on EVERYONE sharing information they have learned from their time as a glider parent. Too many folks only post when THEY have a question then disappear instead of staying around to help others. If you need information quickly - use "SEARCH" at the top of the forum - you might have to try several key words but if your question has been previously answered, you can read the old posts an possibly find the information you are looking for. You can also go to a member's profile by clicking on the user name - and look at all of that individual's past posts for information. The forum is much more than just asking your question and waiting for someone that has an answer for you. SouthWestSugarLover Starting Member 4 Posts Sorry you felt neglected, I don't think that was anyone's intention. I think people help when they are able, but refrain from repeating things like "I don't know" because that can be equally frustrating to some. I don't use this board as often as GliderCentral (which has been down for a couple of days), so I totally missed you. I'm glad you were able to get in touch with Candy. Hopefully you can find a Glider network that satisfies you. PeanutandSid Glider 56 Posts Thank you all for responding and helping me. I felt frustrated and in need of advise in a fairly quick time because it was a medical question. I guess I tend to panic when it comes to medical issues with my gliders. I am a glider owner for less than a year. I too frequent a Face Book site that helps, but as you said, it has it's down falls too. Clicks, snobs and miss info. But I have met some very caring and experienced people on that site also. Thanks again for responding and explaining.

Ko- There are NO real glider experienced vets in my town, so my choices are none. And I am under the impression this was a info. and help site. And you didn't need to chime in, your only echoing what the other folks said.
You want replies, but don't want replies?? My chiming in was actually suggesting that it was Christmas eve and a good chance that most forumites would be doing family time and not sitting around waiting to reply to posts. I didn't see anyone else mentioning that so I did as it is a very feasible explanation. However, taking advice from non professionals at any time on medical conditions should not be taken seriously without consulting professionals. As for choices, if you do not have any vet suitable, then your choice could be not to take in rescues until you can get a suitable vet. Rescuers really rely on having a vet they can trust as these animals often have issues that regular pets don't. I might sound a little abrupt but at the end of the day, it's ALL about the welfare of the animal and animals deserve to get the best treatment possible. If you have a vet who doesn't have a lot of experience, engage them and encourage them to learn more as at the end of the day, it's your gliders (and most likely others) that will benefit. I have been a wildlife rescuer here in Australia and have taken a lot of courses on wildlife care and management, including medications and dosages etc for a range of wildlife including sugar gliders However, we are always told not to publish this information for the very reason, what might work for one animal, may be a death sentence for another and that it is always very important to consult with a Vet. PeanutandSid Glider 56 Posts Thank you Leela. I will look into that. I appreciate you finding that. Ko, I don't,as a habit, take in rescues. I have two standard greys and didn't plan to get anymore but a person that was neglecting her glider gave the glider to me, knowing I would give it a much better home than she was doing. And I have. She came to me weighing 50 grams at about 10 months old and a horrible yellow-brown stained coat and parasite ridden. Her face was so skinny she looked like a sick mouse! Diet of only apples, no pouch, no toys, no wheel and in a plastic hamster tube cage. Since owning her for three months, she know weighs 90 grams, is getting a normal grey and white color and no longer lunges and attacks me. So if I sound proud, I am. But I am not a rescuer per say. I would gladly save another if need be. PeanutandSid Glider 56 Posts Yes, I was upset and just wanted a second opinion on that particular medication. As was brought up, I would never just rely on anyone for medical advice, but just wanted to know if there was a common parasite medication list. I thought I saw a list of commonly used drugs for UTI's and parasites on here once, but couldn't find it. My glider gets her second and final does this Wed. and then a fecal recheck 2 weeks after that. Fingers crossed its all clear, she's lonely and I'm going to try to intro her to my other 2 girls.
