My worry is that the wood will absorb the urine and make it ugly and smelly. What do you think? Pro and cons

I don't think it's a very good cage for sugar gliders.

1) it will probably absorb the smells.

2) your gliders might try and chew it.

3) might be difficult to clean thoroughly.

I know my gliders like to chew things that are wooden. I would recommend getting a cage that is metal. I personally like exotic nutrition cages, but that's up to you.
