Pretty sure the worst thing is to mess with the joey in pouch. The only time to ever remove prematurely is upon death of mother i would imagine then rush for emergency treatment or assistance.

Separating the dad maybe??? But i do know they rarely if ever can reattach to teat if they seperate due to development level.

Anyone know for sure.

Was last time their 1st litter? It is not uncommon for gliders to lose their 1st litter, they are more careful with the next ones.

You should not remove the joey from its parents unless you notice something is wrong (young joey crawling outside the sleeping pouch or left alone for a long period of time, joey crying without getting attention from its parents for more than a few minutes, injured joeys or clearly underfed), in which case you would have to either supplement feed. or hand raise.

In any case, separating the father is not a good idea as both parents take care of their joeys.

Here are some informative pages about care of rejected joeys and hand raising :

Sometimes they reject joeys because they detect a health issue with them, or because the mother doesnt have enough milk.
Note that finding a partially eaten joey does not necessarily mean that they actually killed or neglected it, if a joey dies, whatever the reason, the parents will eat it to prevent the smell from attracting predators.

Which diet are they on?

Increase the protein in the diet. Look up amounts for pregnant and nursing gliders, I believe you are to add more HPS. This could possibly make a difference.
