my two favorite tricks
daytime trick
1. take sleeping pouch to couch, while watching tv stick hand into sleeping pouch and let them sleep with my hand and scent.
nighttime trick.
2. for an unbonded glider - put treat out for glider but put arm in the way, glider has to climb on arm to get treat, over time make glider get farther and farther onto arm until I finally get glider all the way onto my arm then pull away from cage and make them sit on my arm to eat their treat.
They switch their feelings for me all the time. One day Luna will come out for tent time and another time she won't care. Venus will run away from me Tuesday and climb in my shirt Wednesday. I've noticed after first waking up, most want dinner and some will RUN away from me, then 30 to 60 minutes later Link will be following me as I walk in front of cage waiting for the cage to open so he can jump on my arm and take a ride to the refrigerator for a live mealworm.
if the glider is going to bite me I don't mess with him unless I use a fleece piece for protection. I also like the scoop method, less scary for them !!IMO!! coming down in a downward pickup motion I think simulates attacking predators and seems to freak out gliders that are not ready to be picked up. so I put one hand on each side and scoop, the chance to jump away makes them seem less panicked, then they find themselves on me with no danger. Of course most of the time they will just come and climb on my arm or hand all by themselves, you just have to give them the chance.
