Poll Question:
The only two I'm familiar with is CMS (Chicago Manual of Style) and MLA (Modern Language Association of America). I personally prefer the MLA style since that's what I was taught to use. This is choice is mainly for styling cited sources of information and is not meant to be intended as writing guidelines. Unfortunately both formats seem to be U.S. guidelines and I don't know if they are used globally or not. The CMS format is used mainly by press or literary people, while MLA seems to be more university and research oriented, and in my opinion easier.

Results:
CMS   [0%] 0 votes
MLA   [100%] 2 votes
other (see my comments below)   [0%] 0 votes
non issue, this doesn''t matter   [0%] 0 votes

I agree with the use of the MLA. It's also what I'm more used to, but I think it adds a "scholarly" feel.

One thing that is missing from these citation formats is a place for the ISBN of a book. Personally I find it much easier to search for books by this number, however, the limitation of this is that you may not always see all revisions of a particular book. Should the ISBN of a book be provided?

The idea behind citing your sources is so that other people can read the same information and draw their own conclusions. Verifiability is a quality that I think is important, and personally I think an ISBN can help. Anyone else's thoughts on this type of addendum go the citation format?

Of course, these are just guidelines, not rules.
