I was in the process of introducing my new girl glider to my male. i had everything sterilized, and all the toys out (but the wheel). In the beginning everything was normal, but when she started to go on his wheel, he got very territorial over it. She wanted to be on that wheel, and he wanted her away from his wheel. Whenever she went near the wheel, he would lunge at her, and she would run away. But she would ALWAYS go back to the wheel! I eventually put her back in her separate cage, because I didn't want them to get stressed out. What do I do about him and that wheel?

I would try letting them be around eachother without the wheel and see how it goes.

I feel like he will still be territorial over it, even if I take it down for awhile.

I just want to get a clear picture here. So, you've spent plenty of time with them out of cage...like putting them in whatever play area you use (tent, bathroom, etc.)? Or are you saying that part hasn't been done and that you're introducing straight into the cage?

Anyway, my thoughts here are that when there are multiple gliders in a cage that often 2 or more wheels (depending on size of colony and cage) are definitely needed. It's not as common for 2 not to be able to share 1 wheel, but if he's bound and determined not to share just put a second wheel in on the opposite side. He can't guard them both very well. It may be something he just gets over as the two of them bond...but until then...try 2 wheels?

Thank you! I have tried introducing them together in a bathroom, but they weren't even interested in each other. My breeder just suggested to try in the cage this time. They would be okay with each other, if they weren't fighting over that wheel.
