So I have two great danes (Mayhem and Lyric) and two gliders (Calypso and Echo). I live in the apartment above the garage on my Mom's five acres. So, upstairs is mine, carpeted/painted/nice, downstairs is an unfinished garage.

Last night I was walking up stairs with my dogs and the door to my glider room was closed. I open it to go feed them and my dogs follow me in (As usual). They typically go up to the cage and sniff it and then just watch me but they really don't have much interest in the gliders. Last night however.. While I was reaching for the light switch Mayhem ran right up to the cage and pounced with his butt right in the air like ultimate play time. My first thought was "Great.. My sisters cat somehow got in here." Cause this is how he acts with the cat. Then I heard Calypso crab and my heart sank and my stomach flipped. I dropped everything and ran across the room but as soon as Lyric heard the noise she ran over too so I yell at them to come and settle and they did but it looked like Calypso was walking kinda funny. So at this point I'm shaking and can't even believe all of this. I'm just focused on getting her back into her cage. She runs into the hallway and ontop of the dresser sits the cat I mentioned before. Just staring at Calypso. So I shoo her away and get back to getting Calypso safe. By this time she's made it halfway down the stairs and I'm freaking out cause if she gets into the garage there are a million dangerous places for her and the walls aren't completely sheet rocked so she could just climb up into the walls and that would be it. I finally got her and checked her out and she seemed to be fine. I put her and Echo (Who was just sitting on the outside of the cage) back in and discovered that my sister had left their feeding door open by mistake.
Calypso ate well last night, didn't make any weird noises, ran on her wheel a lot and seemed to be acting normal.

As big as Lyric and Mayhem are they have extremely gentle mouths. Their favorite thing is to find rat nests and pick up the baby rats with their mouths and just kinda walk around with them and drop them throughout the yard with no harm done to them (I've hand raised more baby rats then I can count because of thisxD).
I was more afraid of Calypso catching a paw swipe or getting stepped on by them.

I have a vet appointment in a few hours to make sure she's okay cause I know that they hide their pain so we will see.

Anyway, just wanted to rant a little about my traumatizing night. Nobody else really gets the fear your experience when your gliders are in danger.

That was a scary experience! I hope all goes well at the vet, and it makes me very happy to see that you're so responsible in doing this right away. I worried about our cat when we first brought gliders into the house. Our dog at the time was very old and slow, but the cat could have been an issue. Thankfully, she has no interest in them. She is an indoor/outdoor girl so I am always careful to make sure she is in a closed room or outside and announce when I'm bringing the girls out for play time (in another closed room).

My older dog recently passed away and a young pup (8 months old) has come into our lives (rather unexpectedly). She's been with us almost 2 weeks now and shows the same quiet interest when I'm feeding, but other wise basically ignores them. It does add to the stress though with the possibility of a mistake or escape. A reminder for those of us with multiple pets to stay vigilant!

Again, I hope all goes well. Keep us updated!

Scary! Yeah when I lived in my parents' home my bro had a pitbull-Rottweiler mix. He's a gentle giant but I know he is heavy!

A had a sugar glider on me and she decided it would be a good idea to glide to the dog.

The dog likes catching things with his mouth so he instinctively caught her in his mouth. I nearly screamed and my heart sank but he was gentle and she was unharmed.

I've had a few scares with my cats too, but no one has been harmed. I'm now extra paranoid and always make sure everything is secure and safe.

That's great! I'm so glad she's okay. I worry all the time about something happening to my gliders. I have a cat in the house who seems to be afraid of everything. But, he's still a cat and I do not trust him. Even though he's declawed, he still has teeth. I keep the doors to my gliders' rooms closed at all times. Notice I said room(s). I now have 2 more gliders that I rescued this past Saturday to add to the 2 I already had. So now I will have 2 cages and rooms to worry over. If that's not bad enough, I took the new babies to the vet on Sunday (the very next day I got them) to get the male neutered only to be told the girl has 2 joeys in pouch. So now I will have 6 instead of the 2 I originally had.

When the cat passes, I dont plan on replacing him with anything that might be harmful to my suggies. It's one less worry to worry about.
