Thinking about building some PVC cages, can any of you that have them post some photo's in this thread so I can have a nosey?

How do you find them to clean?

Can Stealth wheels be attached to the sides or do they need to be on stands on the floor?

Anything that I should be aware of in general?

Cheers in advance :)

Our PVC cage is 6 feet tall, about three feet wide both ways.
They're very easy to clean, I just climb inside and wipe everything down and vacuum the bottom.
You could attach a stealth wheel to the side, but it would probably wobble a little.
It costs about $80 in materials.
If you have any more questions about building it, I would be happy to help!

By the way, the small door on the side is a "kitchen"

I love the look of that cage! I think I came across it on google images somewhere before. I suppose you'd really need to be inside these to give them a good wash. How many do you house in there then? It's a great size!

I'm looking at 6ft tall, 3ft wide and hopefully 3ft deep for my breeding pairs. Then I need one 6x4x4 I think for my colony. I love the roof design on this though. Was it difficult?

I like the idea of a kitchen, I just worry about the enclosed space if ever anyone got food aggressive. Some of my females can be at certain times. Would save my walls a lot of washing though!

Thank you! We love it. Cosmo loves it!

I actually only have one boy in there right now, but his friend will be arriving Wednesday

No, it wasn't too difficult! My boyfriend did the cutting and measuring, but it didn't take long. Pretty simple!
Adding the kitchen has definitely saved a lot of cleaning time, but I wouldn't want to risk that either.

That is a nice looking cage.

I don't have a cage like that, but i believe you can customize them, building shelvese, such as that kitchen is built in. Shelves can be sized how you like because you design and make these cages. Maybe you could even design a proficient way to accommodate your wheels.

I'm going to throw my 2 cents in. I used 1.2" PVC pipe to make my cage and over about a month it "settled" and some gaps opened up. This past Saturday my girl, who is a tiny girl escaped at 3:30 in the morning.... They're in a room with the door closed but she's tiny enough to fit under the door. Both of my gliders are back in their Brisbane cage and I'm going to invest in a Congo cage. If I realized it would do that, I would gone with 3/4" pipe because it would have been sturdier all around. The cage lasted about 3 months total.

I have had this cage for almost five months now and haven't had any problems. I'm sorry about that, that must have been scary.

By no means am I insulting the previous reply's engineering skills, but as long as it's built correctly and carefully and with the proper materials and measurements, that shouldn't happen. If you do build one, keep a close eye on it, just in case. Mine is in my glider proofed bedroom, right next to my bed, so if there were any new gaps we would notice right away. It is very solid thus far.

I have PVC cages.

I find them easy to clean
They're very light weight so I can move them outside by myself to hose down with no problems.
And superficial cleanings are easy too, imo.

You should obviously be aware that gliders can chew the plastic mesh and get out.
But I've been using them for over a year and that hasn't happened yet. Hopefully it doesn't happen ever. XD

I have Fast Tracks and I attached them to the PVC. I have the horizontal mounts for the Fast Tracks, btw.
And I made a T to hold them better. (The PVC they are attached to is not just a horizontal piece that goes from side to side. It's a T. There's a vertical piece in the middle that goes down or up.)
Not sure how it would work with a Stealth.

I like the look of a pvc cage ( I wonder) does everyone glue the piece together or are the pipes just sitting in the T's and X pieces ? I would glue mine and then just have each side sipped to the other side.( so I if I had to move I could just cut the zips and lay it flat in my truck ( or enlarge/expand the cage as needed.

I would not recommend glue which is potentially toxic

normally the pipes sit in the Ts and once the mesh is tied to it it shouldn't move

Helen, I'm going ahead and linking images of these type cages, so you can see different setups and designs.

That's great, thanks guys!
We'll be screwing the pipes together as well as using the connecters. Also considering using black pvc piping instead of white, might show up muck less in between cage cleans :)

Hoping to have a go within a fortnight. I'll post pics when i'm done :)
