After the quarantine and swapping, if my babies get along and we put them in the same cage, will they have little fights and need separated? Or little 'spats'? I have a neutered male and female.
How did your gliders behave when they first started sharing everything?
I couldn't find any threads about what to expect when they are first placed in the same cage and getting used to each other.
Thank you

Hello!
When I first put Gimli and Guenevere into a cage with Clare Bear it was as if they were long lost siblings. They slept together in the same pouch immediately. They played together. There are little "spats" as you described them which consist of one "psst"ing the other, usually as one steals a piece of food from the other, or in the pouch (get your foot outta my eye!). During Clare's time of the month she gets all Miss Dominant on everyone and starts mounting everyone. The same things happened when we added Thor.

There should be absolutely NO fighting, no rolled up in a ball vicious fighting. (If you ever see that you must separate them immediately!) I've never seen that, but I've read that you would know it if you saw it.

I would watch them carefully for a night or two just to be safe if you aren't sure.

My three neutered males (they were all 4 months OOP or younger) sniffed each other a couple times and then crawled into the same pouch to sleep for the day.

I did make the cage neutral territory before adding the new glider, and I spent the first night on the couch beside them just in case. Luckily there was no issues, and they have gotten along great since day one.

My two were introduced at the glider rescue we adopted Simon from. It took about a half hour or so. Initially they ignored and avoided each other until we put them on Darrin then all the sudden Leela grabbed Simon's tail licked it and buried her face into his tail rubbing it all over her face, was soooo funny lol Simon groomed her back a little bit then they both went right in the bonding bag together.

I had washed the cage thoroughly and removed anything from the cage that might hold Leela's scent after washing before we brought them home. The cage was to be neutral smelling as much as possible, we put a new cage set in the cage as well. When we got home We put the bonding pouch in the cage and they have been together ever since. For a couple days Leela had trouble "sharing" food, but quickly got over it. Simon crabs at her a little bit in the sleeping pouch, even now 4 or 5 months later he still does lol but it's only once or twice if she wakes him up.

Over all they get along like they have always been together. The toys that we removed were put back in once Simon started marking things as his. By then Leela's scent on the toys wasn't an issue anymore an no one got protective of them. She was a tad protective of all her toys until we got Simon. They both share everything pretty well with each other.

I think making the cage smell as neutral as possible helped a lot, it let Leela know she had to share her space and toys and it let Simon know he could make this his home without feeling like an intruder or outsider.

I forgot to mention how I made the cage and everything in it neutral...Dawn dish soap with white vinegar. Just make sure you rinse off all the residue with clean water when your done.
