Hello all!

With it being the summer season, we have had an on-going battle with fleas within our home. As a treatment to the problem, we have sprinkled the powder detergent, Borax, on the carpet as it is known to kill fleas. After setting within the carpet for about 8 hours (at a good distance away from the cage), we vacuumed up the loose powder in hopes to remove dead fleas.

I am curious to know if this could be harmful to the gliders? Upon research, I have read that the detergent is NOT boric acid, which is known to cause health issues. I have read numerous times that it is safe to animals, but being a concerned mommy I worry that the gliders may breath in any remaining powder from the carpet or even consume it during their out-of-cage play time, as they usually roam around on the floor. Would anyone be able to help? I hate to keep them in their cage tonight rather than playing and getting their exercise if it is not needed.

Thank you!

Are you using the DETERGENT or the plain Borax powder?

I would be concerned about their being in contact with the Detergent (Soap).

I have used small amounts of the Borax Powder under the paper cage liners in the cage pans to keep insects out of the cage for years.

It's safe, and safe to ingest in small amounts. I have some borax in my drop trays hasn't bothered my gliders a bit.

Borax powder and the detergent both are safe? Just would like clarification. Does it keep all bugs away?

I am not sure about the Detergent - which has borax mixed with soaps and probably other water conditioners to be use alone for laundry.

Borax Powder is a laundry additive - used in addition to your choice of laundry soap.

As a dry powder it kills insects by clogging the pores in the their exoskeleton that are part of their respiratory system.

A few years ago I had an invasion of German roaches (came with a used cage that came with a glider, apparently living INSIDE the metal frame where washing the cage did not get to them.)

I finally got rid of them by using borax powder sprinkled under the paper liners in my cages because that is where they hide during the day. I put the powder in the holes of the cage frame as well to get rid of the ones that hid inside. I also put it under the baseboards in the glider room and in the sliding door track that separates the glider room from the living room.

It does work well for fleas in carpets too.
