Could someone please share with me how they get the idea that using baby foods in place of fresh foods is a good idea?
I am constantly seeing people (mainly new gllider ownders) say they use baby food, or suggest using baby food to other new glider owners.
I'm completely stumped by this!

I use the gerber chicken and turkey with gravy which has no artificial preservatives or seasonings. I don't see the problem in using this. They love it and they get it once or twice a week as their protien source. This was before I started giving them cooked chicken, and was a way to get variety for them (they can get easily bored).

I don't use baby food, but I have read on here you have to careful there are some baby foods that have onion powder I believe listed as a ingredient.

I don't think baby food is a good idea, they dilute these foods out with a bunch of water and then use a thickening agent.
So I was just wondering why others think it's a good idea?
Does this go back to people being lazy and trying to get out of putting lots of work into their gliders meals?

I am offended by that. I put plenty of time into doing my glider's diet. I cut up all of their fruits and freeze them, and make sure they are varying shapes and sizes for enrichment. I cook up chicken for them, and make sure that I change their protien every day so that they don't get bored. And I spend hours a day playing with them. I am not lazy at all, I just believed that this was another source of protien for them. I love my gliders with all my heart and would never feed them something I thought was unsafe.

I don't think it has to be a problem at all. Gliders are sap suckers, so something with a nectar like consistency is not at all bad or unsafe for them. I alternate between BML and 50/25/25 diets, switching about every six weeks.

Many folks use the baby chicken as part of the BML diet. (I use it in my Blended Diet also) The Chicken and Turkey are basically cooked meat with water added to make the puree consistency.
Some Baby foods are OK - but read the labels carefully for added onion or garlic and sometimes in the toddler foods added salt.
I do keep a few baby foods on hand for EMERGENCIES such as a power outage during hurricane season that might prevent using my regular frozen glider diet or frozen fruits & veggies.
I give my gliders the baby fruits once in a while just to keep them used to them (not their favorite - they like hand size pieces) but generally I have them for emergencies only.
I do not think gliders would do well on a babyfood only diet. Most of the meat & vegetable combinations have very little protein in them. I did not use the mixes for my skin kids either. Think of the mixtures as a SOUP - mostly water.

I use the Gerber chicken and turkey simply because Pixie will not eat meat any other way. She was 2 years old when I got her and had been eating nothing but pelleted food. She was underweight and her coat looked terrible. I put her on BML and she gained weight, her coat improved, and she did much better. Then she stopped eating the BML so I started the 50/25/25 diet... the only problem with this is she refused all meats and most of the time any other protein. I checked the ingredients in different baby foods and found that Gerber chicken and turkey consisted of chicken, water, and corn starch. She loves it and is getting her protein. The corn starch may not be ideal, but I limit things like corn and other not so healthy foods to very rare treats to make up for it. I also mix her calcium supplement in with the meat. She's very healthy and everything else I give her is fresh, prepared by my own 2 hands, and healthy. She does eat shrimp on occasion instead of the baby food, but other than that she wouldn't eat meat.
And for the record... I am in no way lazy when it comes to feeding my baby. No matter how sick or tired or busy I am in the evenings, I always prepare a healthy meal for her. I am offended by this assumption.

Using baby food in place of fresh foods is NOT a good idea. People that use it once in a while or as the protein sources like the plain meats is one thing. It sounds to me like you're talking about people that are advising others to use it for fruits and veggies, etc... I couldn't agree with you more. Fresh fruits and vegetables are good for their dental health, no vitamins are cooked or processed out and they like to use their little hands to pick up their foods and eat. They suck the juices out of fresh fruits and vegetables and that's how they get most of their fluids...not just from their water bottle.

I think some of you misunderstood the question, but it seems that Candy and Kyro completely understood though.
My question was posed to seeing people suggest baby food IN PLACE of fresh foods.

I give my babies some baby food every once in a while! If you read the ingredients and make sure nothing is bad in there then thats fine but it is not good to use it INSTEAD of fruits. Cuz i would never do that...thats unhealthy but using it every once in while is okay cuz they like liquidy stuff sometimes since they like the sap!

I would say once in a great while no big deal. But I do have to say I use it in the BML that I make but I make a modified BML mix.
I use a jar of baby food veggies, a jar of fruit, and a jar of meat usually chicken or turkey. I also add some other things to it. I have never just given baby food, but again as a treat or little extra I don't see a big deal.

Try the Beechnut baby chicken and turkey. These are chicken & water or broth with out the cornstarch added by other brands.

Good eye Candy, I think too many people assume that baby foods are great because they're for babies. When in reality they're not.

Hello being a newbie my self I instantly thought of chicken and turkey baby food (organic) while reseaching online, I have come accross multiple recipies including both Chicken & Turkey. I wouldn't suggest it as a staple food. bot diversity is key to well rounded! One who is well rounded can make any shape!(get in where you fit in)

I have 3 gliders, 2 are 4yrs old and the other is 3. 2 yrs ago my husband and I were long haul trucking for 8 mos. I used baby food, yogurt and scrambled eggs microwave cooked along with vits etc. My babies are happy, healthy, friendly and have never had a health problem. I also used whatever fresh fruit I could keep in an ice chest. I make them cereal with baby bananas, powdered baby rice cereal, unsweetened all natural applesauce, honey and their vits. At home I also use these things along with fresh and frozen veg and fruit. The trick is to use ONLY Stage 1 or Stage 2 baby foods that have no salt sugar onion or garlic. Mine also like pieces of baby biter sticks for occasional treats. They also enjoy dried apricots raisins and prunes. They even like baby apple juice to drink sometimes.

I have to say that you should have stated your question a little differently. Maybe stated it as "why do people use only baby food" or the like. I was a tad bit offended too.
I usually use HPW but right now I am out and have been doing 50/25/25. I sometimes use Beech Nut Turkey & Turkey Broth or Chicken & Chicken Broth for variety with their proteins. Neither of them contain anything but the meat and the broth. They seem to like it and I try to mix things up for them so they aren't bored. I also hand prepare fresh (or frozen) veggies and fruits every night. I will say that the Chicken stinks the next morning !
