I got 2 female gliders last Sunday (yay!!!!!!!) but since we got them they have not been eating their bml diet, that's the one thier previous owner had them on. Coco is 2 and 1/2 years old and peanut is 16 months. I have tried to give them boiled chicken they only ate that once. I am very worried about them not getting enough protien. They are still eating all thier fruits and veggies. Anyone have any ideas or advice, it would be appreciated greatly, thank you

You might want to try giving them their BML first. Maybe wait an hour or two then give them the fruits and veggies.

I will tell you, my gliders didnt really care for BML. One of my gliders never would eat it. A diet is only good if they are eating it well. If this continue, you might want to think about changing their diet.

And before you go smearing honey all over everything, you might want to add a little bit of organic apple juice to your water when you boil your chicken. Or even blending it with your veggies.

I'm by no means an expert when it comes to getting them to eat protein. Luna fights me tooth and nail. Have you tried boiled or scrambled egg yet?

2 tablespoons of protein per glider is the rule of thumb I've been told.

And there are lots of great sources of protein turkey being one of them, lean hamburger, boiled and scrambled eggs, broiled baked or boiled chicken. Just be careful when you cook these things, avoid oil and butter, seasonings, garlic and onion especially.

I've been told some dry parsley flakes, are good for seasoning though because they are high in calcium.

Try mealworms and crickets. They are a good source of protein also. My village loves them. I let them chase the crickets around the bathroom floor. Its fun to watch too.

Caution: Mealworms are very fatty, and should be given as a treat, not the main source of protein. Crickets are fun, I turn them loose in the tent and the boys have a blast.

I give mine ground or roast turkey, chicken, steamed salmon, shrimp, occasionally lean ground beef, occasionally pork tenderloin (the really lean stuff). They get an omelet about once every five days. Check the Resources: Nutrition tab above for some recipes.

Gliders can't process fat very well, as it's not something they'd get much of in the wild; so make sure the meat you give them is as lean as you can get, and if necessary rinse the fat off before you give it to your little girls.

Salt will cause a glider to dehydrate very quickly with potentially life-threatening results. They just can't process it the way other animals can. Some animals need salt, for instance deer and cattle; others don't need it at all.

Snusie is right on point with every suggestion. I feed the same way she does and mine also love eggs-especially where there are veggies mixed in with them. Try putting a hard boiled egg in there one night and see what you find in the morning! (I have to crack the shell for my spoiled rotten ones or they won't touch it) They can eat the shell, in case you were wondering.

We put the veggies in with the BML and stir it all up. You may want to try that.

i know how you feel.. i give my gliders the hpw diet. THEY GULP IT UP over night.. but lastley they havnt been eating their fruits or veggies =/ just the hpw.. i guess them liking a diet too much isnt good either lol. if i just give them veggies one night. theyll eat it all! but.. when i give it to them all together they only eat the hpw an some fruits Some veggies. i was told they were suppose to eat EVERYTHING. but.. mine are still little so maybe they dont have much of an apatite yet? i hope you find a solution to your problem. i would try giving them the hpw or do what they said above,.. mix the bml with the fruits or the veggies. maybe theyll like it =)

So guys i have tried everything you told me they like the chicken boiled in applesauce, also they seem to love veggie omlette as soon as I opened their cage one of them jumped on me to taste the food( guess it must have smelled good to her)I just wanted to thank everyone with all your advice and help, thanks to you guys I found some sort of protien that they will eat, but i just have a question, is it okay for me to rotate between egg and chicken and is it ok to add a sprinkle a little of thier vitamins on thier protien , I just want to make sure they have enough calcium as well as protien, and once again i just want to thank everyone on thier post. Now they are eating protein and veggies but they dont seem to like fruit, i have tried: apple, strawberry, peach, mango, orange, what type of fruit do you feed your gliders?

It absolutely is okay to rotate them with chicken and egg, and the vitamins are okay on them.

My girly loves all fruit; blueberries, cantaloupe, honeydew, papaya, pineapple.

I take my fruits, add a splash of calcium fortified orange juice, blend them and then put them in ice cube trays and freeze. Luna loves them, she eats the cube as it melts.

It's actually better to rotate their food, since they'll get tired of the same thing day after day. Mine get, by the day, chicken, ground turkey, shrimp, chicken, egg, ground turkey, ground beef, chicken, ground turkey ... etc. Tonight we're having pork tenderloin, haven't had that for about two months so they'll get some of it. Change it up, give them variety!
