Ok so ziggy got neutered Monday morning. He now has a hole where his incision was. I guess he got the surgical glue off? It's not bleeding. Its about a centimeter big. Just a hole. I can't get a picture I tried. Is it ok? No right?

Hello
I would take him to the vet asap so they can close it again...your biggest fear should be infection! then you will just end up with another issue...my suggestion is to bring him to the vet now and have them close it also you may want to look online and make an e-collar

Sounds like he's on the verge of SMing. It shouldn't be opened at all. You should probably take him back, otherwise there's no telling what he'll do before morning.

I can see right into his body. My boyfriends saying just let him be until tomorrow. I don't know if we should.

Put on e-collar on him or e-jacket so he can't do any more damage and get him to the vet. Seeing into his body is NOT normal or OK. I would get him to a vet as soon as possible, but the ecollar or e-jacket is the first step!

Yep, e-collar or e-jacket. That just sounds creepy. You don't need food or feces getting into the hole. I'm thinking he may not be sm-ing but his cagemates may be.

OH...and to add what others said - NO QUESTION...a vet visit is in order. Like right away ..just in case you haven't gone yet. There have been many gliders that have lost their lives in this situation. I recently lost one of my precious babies to this issue. We went to the vet (2 actually) and neither of them could save him. If he hasn't done much for internal damage, he can be closed back up. But you definitely want to STOP him from doing anymore damage and get him fixed back up.
Good luck to you guys!

Here is the consulting vets list too...in case your vet needs help. I talked to Village Vet with my situation and they were AWESOME and totally 100% experienced and willing to help. Literally just have the vet there call them for help if they need it. I know that you have had a rough time with this neuter all the way from the vet visit...I hope things get better!

Just please remember to have your VET call the consultating vets, not yourself. This is very important to these vets that volunteer their time to help, for several reasons. They request that only the vet call them, and it is a courtesy we can extend to them since they are offering their time and knowledge to help out. I know that my vet takes about 10 calls per week from other vets, so they absolutely are willing to consult with other vets any time.
Now, to go against the grain a bit, what you describe above is not uncommon and really is not that terrible. In fact, it is way more common than people think. Have a vet check it out, but if there is no blood and the neuter was done correctly, then there is not really need for more anesthesia and more stitches/glue/what have you. I'd be happy to speak with you by phone about this. 806-274-9177

Thank you Val! I posted that "quickly" and didn't think to drill home that "we" are not to contact the consulting vets but rather the vets we are seeing. I hope that you guys connect on this. You know my sensitivities are heightened in this area so my advice was definitely "GO TO THE VET, better safe than sorry." Certainly didn't mean to scare her...or make it sound worse, just the whole "seeing his insides" gives me pause these days. I just don't feel comfortable with any of that. And I kind of have a thought that...if they dug the hole open - what's to say that the glider won't keep going and perforate the bladder or injure some other internal organ in another nibble or two? I would find myself feeling very reactive and proactive in this situation. Assess and repair the damage (if necessary) and of course try to prevent any more.
Again, I hope that you guys can connect and beyond that I hope and pray that this little glider is well!
One more thought - there is another post about the horrible vet experience, this is another reason I think that the vet should "phone a friend" on this one. It sounds like they were put under just for the exam and that the vet was not at all comfortable with the situation. I think that thread is titled "Wow, such a stressful day" or something like that for reference. I can't recall if you or others read that one.

Ok. Update is we went to the vet this morning at 830 ( after crying myself to sleep because the family consensus was to wait until the morning. I was the only person thinking otherwise). Vet said it looked okay. Put more surgical glue on it. Gave me pain meds and antibiotics for ziggy. And made an ecollar and tried to put it on him for twenty minutes with her nurse, with no luck. I've been tring to get this damn collar on for 2 or 3 hours now, and also made a sad attempt at making an e jacket and tried getting that on too
he keeps picking at it! He won't stop unless I am holding him where he can't pick it, or distracting him with food or something. Ugh. I'm typing one handed trying to hold him in the open bonding pouch. I am going to have to sit here all damn day holding him away from his incision -_-. He is like trying to keep himself awake too. Lol. I hope he falls asleep soon. Any other suggestions?

Oh GOSH! I am just so happy he is alive and "well" that I don't know what to say! Let me think....and moreover, you want might want to talk to someone senior about this that has dealt with it a lot. I am pasting the list of people that can help below from www.sugargliderhelp.com Of course - Val (something_to_believe_in) also posted her contact above and she is on this list as well. I think your best bet is to try to get someone's advice that has "been there and done that" already. Otherwise, someone (like me) might tell you to just duct tape him to your chest.

I sent you a PM about the e-collar - hopefully you can get that to stay on and don't have to worry about. However, the more times he's been able to get it off, the harder he'll fight once you get it right so just be prepared for that and try to distract him.

LOL! Before you resort to duct tape... run to WalMart or Walgreens or the like and get some Athletic tape. It comes in a roll and it's that stuff that sticks to itself but not to fur...
I'd wrap it a few times around his midsection, then criss cross it like a makeshift diaper around his hind legs, letting his tail poke out. It's flexible so he can move, won't stick to his fur but will hopefully keep him from chewing on himself.

Not sure what brands are in each store, but most stores don't carry too many options when it comes to the self stick athletic tape. It doesn't have adhesive. It's the material it's made of that sticks to itself. If you asked the pharmacist, they'd know exactly what you are asking for.

Sorry, mines been opened so I no longer have the packaging.... It's near the bandages, kinda where they keep Ace bandages & bandaids.
It's literally called Sports Wrap...it's stretchy, flexible, and non-sticky, but yes, as Kylah mentioned, if you are unsure, ask the pharmacist...they should be able to direct you.
WalMart had Kids Sports Wrap and they had Red, Yellow, Blue & regular white.
