So, with the recent run with the vet here in San Antonio, I have decided I am looking for a 'real' glider vet. This vet I saw is no more a glider vet than Dr. Flippin' Seuss! He don't know jack about them. I had to bring him a print out of my diet, a list of the vets to consult with and he had to leave to google certain things about gliders. Can you say red flag all day long? Well, I had him run a fecal and asked for the C&S as well but he told me seeing as he didn't see anything in the fecal, he didn't feel a C&S was necessary. Dude, really? Humor me! I'm here ready to pay for it and you are telling me not until you consult with another vet?! So, I did some more calling around. I found Dr. Tristan who is 'on' the list in Corpus. I'm from there and it is what? two hours away. I can make the drive for a knowledgeable vet. So, Dr. Tristan should be calling me to talk to me about Kai. I'm sl glad I am finally getting things moving. This other vet also said he may need to do bloodwork on Kai but has never done it before. But! he has drawn blood from mice. LOL. Is he kidding me? Who said this guy was a exotic vet? His name came up on The Sweet Spot list too. Maybe I should let Val know he isn't glider knowledgeable at all.

That would be a great idea....I wonder how many other vets are on those lists when they shouldn't be.

Tons are on the lists that shouldn't be - but sometimes its because vets change practices or they're OK for a general exam but not more serious issues, etc. Sometimes they're just ridiculous and think they're just like hamsters or something. Other times you run into a vet that isn't knowledgable but wants to learn! The vet database on this site seems to be the most updated - the one on GC is very tedious to add/remove. I've reported bad links months ago and they're still there...

Sara, I think this vet actually does want to learn but not on my dime and Kais expense. Great thing is I should be hearing from Dr. Tristan himself or his office later today.

My vet isn't nearly as knowledgeable as one of the technicians, Aaron, who works at the vet. Aaron helped his wife raise gliders for years, so he has tons of experience with them. I always schedule appointments on days when he is working. He's so sweet with the girls. They both like him and try to crawl in his shirt every time they see him. The actual vet recommended the leadbeaters diet to me, and seems to know the basics, but he's just not as knowledgeable as Aaron.
I really need to find an emergency vet (just in case) in the Austin area too. Our vet is only open until 4-5pm in the afternoon.

Can you tell me where/who this vet is? I'm located in San Antonio and have an appointment at a certain vet's office and kinda wanna see if it's the same one!! I'm a little nervous now. I have been told of an amazing glider vet in Corpus as well! But, I do not recall his name at this time!

This one is in Corpus..Dr. Tristan. He is on the consult list. Kylah, I will let them know. Yelloh22, if it is Dr. Spillers at Town and Country, I wouldn't waste my time. He doesn't know much at all about them. He's seen mine twice and will put gloves on but never has handled them. He lets the techs hold them. They don't mind, they love the boys. Oh, Spillers said Dr. Tristan said to put them back on HPW. Making an appointment with him for possibly next Friday. He's a busy vet and is 'the' man to go to they say when it comes to gliders. quote: Originally posted by yelloh22
