I got Marveirk at the age of 1.5 year on a Saturday. All was going great, vet check went well. Then within 1 week he went from running and playing to video's below. after many, many, many vet visits, X-rays, fecals, blood work, etc and about 5 sub-q's a day, antibiotics, and pain meds, anti-inflammatory meds, we fought for 2.5 weeks. He wasn't giving up so I wasn't going to either. But he was just getting worse and worse and as you can hear me on the video loosing it (and crying now) I had to make the terrible decision and helped him along to meet my dad.

here is Maverick when I first got him

this is all because of his prior owners not taking him to regular vet visits, not telling me when I got him something was wrong, and horrible diet!

He was the sweetest and (although I know you shouldn't have favorite) my favorite. You could do anything with him (not even bonded). He was sweet and cuddler. And he suffered all because his prior owners wouldn't take him to the vet, nor pass along they knew something was wrong.

Maverick passed away on Saturday 3/17 from a brain abscess.

So when people advise to take your glider to the vet ASAP....LISTEN PEOPLE!

They never asked to be in a home with irresponsible owners, they never asked to let them suffer. While Maverick didn't really suffer as he was a fighter and I was doing everything financially, PHYSICALLY (2 WEEKS NO SLEEP), and I honestly think he knew I was trying to help.

if you are even worried about a sniffle....TAKE THEM TO THE VET!
as after going through all this with Maverick, I am overly parinoid now.

I'm so sorry for your loss, dooney. : Maverick looked like a sweetie. I hope your other gliders (you said he's the sweetest, so I assume there are others) are doing all right. Give them snuggles, I'm sure it will make all of you feel a little better.

What was wrong with his hind legs? Calcium deficiency?

I'm really glad the girls and I went to the vet last week now (just a checkup and fecals), but still. Those videos of him sick were scary and very sad.

we at first thought it was HLP, but come to find out it was a brain abcess. All my other's are in perfect health, as I said I am extra parinoid now after maverick so I tend to over kill with thevet visit! lol

I am very thankful I had Val and Aimee during the time with Maverick. They would just talk with me, listen to me bawl, and were just such a great support. I couldn't have done it without them!

I only had him a very short time about 3-4 weeks! But fell in love instantly! Manick took lots of time (all my fears)! I lost maverick months ago! My post and videos are for others to show how quickly things happen (and it wasn't my fault)! But getting to the vet ASAP is critical!
