I would like to know what you feed your gliders and why.
Please include information such as: 1) X% J-Brand staple food and Y% fruits and veggies. 2) How long have you been using this diet? (age of the glider(s) could be useful too) 3) How much time per week, and per day for food preparation? 4) Where there any physical manifestations that this diet was better than a diet that was used previously? 5) All things considered ... Why do you use this diet?
Please be as specific as possible.
Thanks, Ed

1. LGRS "suggie soup" 1TBLS per glider per night. I make a mix of 3 fruits and 3 veggies that I cut up and mix up. Fruits in one bowl and veggies in another. I scoop it out and put it into ice cube trays and freeze them. pop them out and put in zip lock bags. I have anywhere from 3 to 4 diffrent mixes that I rotate around. So they have something diffrent every night. I also change their meat every night.
2. I just put them on this diet a couple of weeks ago and they eat a lot better on it. My gliders age range from about 2 day oop to 3 yrs old. I say about due to they are all rescue and all I got when I got them was "about". Only 2 I know for sure.
3. I try and get mine all together on the same day so it takes me a few hours. I just made 3 batches of the suggie soup so that should last a few months and I just put together another batch of fruits and veggies and froze them. I put together 1 batch of fruits and veggies a week until I have 3 to 4 diffrent mixes and then just replace as you run out. It makes dinner prep much faster every night. I spent about 15 mins to get their food onto their plates, hid their meat so they have to find it, give them a treat and some loves and put their food in their cage and shut the light off.
4 and 5 It was made by a rescue for rescue gliders in poor health. All of mine are rescue except the 2 day oop one which was born here and his sister was only 4 weeks oop and not weaned when I got her so she was never on a bad diet. The other 4 were all on pellet diet and they were under weight on one and over weight on another and very stained and cracked fur. They are all very health now. Smooth fur and the staining is going away.

I feed the 'UK diet'
Make a batch of 5 or 6 different fruits veg (example: papaya, mango, blueberries, sweet potato, butternut squash). Cut up and blend into a smoothie mix. Add 2 tablespoons of natural yogurt, 2 tablespoons of Wheatgerm and 3 tablespoons of soaked Linseed (put linseed in a bowl, add hot water and wait until it absorbs and becomes oily). Blend together, then add suppliments - 1 teaspoon of Bee Pollen, 1 teaspoon of Glider Cal, half a teaspoon of Acacia Gum, 2 tablespoons of Wombaroo High Protein Powder. Blend again, pour into ice cube trays and freeze. For protein, 5 days a week I feed 6 pieces of high quality cat kibble per glider. They love them and with the rest of their diet being blended I feel a bit of hard food is good for their teeth. They have them in the first place, put them to use! (You may hear the 'gliders are sap-suckers' statement, this is true but they don't suck on trees to get to the sap, they gauge and strip off the bark first! They also eat hard shelled beetles in the wild so they are more than capable of eating kibble). For the other 2 days a week I feed egg, either scrambled or in an omelette as mine wont eat plain boiled.
I've been using this diet since I brought home my first pair of joeys, March 2011.
This takes about 20 mins to prepare and as I make it in a batch and freeze into ice cube trays it make a weeks worth at a time. Each night I just take out 3 cubes per glider and put them in a dish to defrost an hour or two before feeding time. So each night it takes a few minutes to get the cubes out and when defrosted put into their food bowls.
My gliders all look fantastic. They have big appetites and are very active. My intact male I brought home when he was 2yrs old, he looked abit tatty - fur seperation, scrawny tail, within 2 months he looked in perfect condition, so for me that is proof that it is a good diet. I don't have any fussy eaters, I have never had to take any of mine to the vets for anything but neuters. I also breed mine and the diet has done great for my females and joeys. Joeys are very healthy and with the fruits/veg being blended they've all been starting on adult food at around 4wk OOP.
I use this diet because it was the one I liked to the sound of the best when I started researching gliders. It's flexible, you aren't restricted to certain fruist and veg or proteins. I'm not comfortable with the amount of honey in other diets, it seems to promote fussy eaters - to which peoples response seems to be to cover the untempting food in more honey! It's easy to prepare, altho not 'recognised' in the US it has been used in the UK for over 10years with great results. It's 'proven' itself to me.
All the products (apart from the suppliments) can be bought in normal shops. All the suppliments are Exotic Nutrition products which you can order cheap from their online website.

1) X% J-Brand staple food and Y% fruits and veggies. I feed Reep's Wombaroo Diet. It is made with Wombaroo High Protein Supplement, either two large scrambled eggs or two things of chicken baby food, Gerber mixed baby cereal, and 100% pure organic apple juice. The girls each get 2tsp of that each night along with 2tbl fruits and 2tbl veggies each. I always keep calcium to phosphorous ratios in mind. And three times a week they each get 1tsp of yogurt. The recipe for this diet can also be found under the nutrition section of this website.
2) How long have you been using this diet? (age of the glider(s) could be useful too) I have been using this diet for four months (how long I've been a glider momma). But I have some instant HPW and sometimes offer that instead to mix things up. I've also offered plain boiled chicken and a boiled egg to mix things up.
3) How much time per week, and per day for food preparation? I make a two week batch and then freeze it. All I have to do each evening is pop an "ice cube" of their food into their bowl and pick out their fruits and veggies for the evening. It takes like five minutes to feed them, but on the night when I make their reeps batches, it takes like fifteen.
4) Where there any physical manifestations that this diet was better than a diet that was used previously? My second glider, Soleil, wasn't eating the best food (her protein was a pelleted cat food). She's been on Reeps Wombaroo Diet for about a month, and her fur went from being cracked to being super shiny, smooth, and soft.
5) All things considered ... Why do you use this diet? Luna's breeder recommended it. Luna doesn't like honey, and this is one of the few diets that doesn't use honey as a sweetener (it uses apple juice). Both of my girls really like the reeps. Both of my girls look really healthy. I find the diet really easy to prepare and serve each night.

I use a non recognized diet.
I have three gliders about 9 months old now.
They get two tbsp of frozen mixed veggies, two different chunks of frozen fruit, two tbsp of dry mix that the breeders used for over 25 yrs ( mixture of different dry glider kibble and dry fruit, insects ect.) 6 mealworms, i offer hard boiled egg once a week as well as frozen pinkies once a week, they also get countless other things i hide around there cage like cheerios, peanuts, almonds, chick peas, sunflower seeds, papya, ect. I also sprinkle there froxen vegg and fruit with vitamins and all that.
It takes a few minutes to put it in a bowl and dish out mealies.
I use it because it works. It is the closest thing to natural and im not restricting anything. Im always adding or removing things depending on what they like or dont like. Im always looking for more natural or organic things to feed them and im always looking to provide what they need and like rather than subing this for that. Im always reading what they eat in the wild and trying to provide as close to it as i can.
My gliders are perfect. They dont smell even though i have an intact male. There fur is fluffy and pretty. They havent shown any signs of being picky.

The information about my GliderKids Staple feeding plan is on my web site.
http://www.gliderkids.com/Feeding.html
I have 14 gliders and they have been on my feeding plan for over 3 1/2 years except the three youngest that are under 18 months old and have been eating it since they were weaned.
The portion of the staple mix is only 2 teaspoons but has about the same amounts of protein and calcium as other diets that recommend a larger serving. This small amount encourages them to eat more fruits and vegetables with the staple.
I have no picky eaters.

I use OHPW now. 1 cube per glider each night. I changed to this diet 2 weeks ago because my vet that consulted with Peggy and helped create it. So, of course he wants his clients on it. I only have to make it once, maybe twice a month. Blend it, put it in icecube trays and pop a few out each night. My boys have brown scraggly looking fur and I hope HPW changes that. They were on LGRS and I did see improvement but the vet wanted me to switch anyway. Don't know the outcome yet of using the diet.

Omis n Kais g-Ma - Did Dr Tristan mention anything about using Peggy's new products or did he just recommend the Original diet made with Wombaroo High Protein Supplement?
