Please dont use this wheel for sugar gliders. There are many whhels available out there, The Raptor wheel (mygliderwheelsandmore.com), The Choice Custom Cruiser wheel(cccruiser.com/), The stealth(atticworx.com)(In No particular order) just to name a few different types.

Teri Casper on FB says:
"Just want to spread the word about the dangers of a wodent wheel. I had two wodents (temporary) in my brand new cage of joeys that i purchased, and I had to have two tail amputations from this. The BB broke her tail in two places and the creme in one. Not a mark from chewing, straight impacted fractures. I happened to take every single toy and accessory out of the cage that night except one pouch and two wodent wheels."

Terry can you make this a sticky please.

Thanks for posting this Cora.

The best wheels have an open front everyone and no obstructions or anything they can get their tails stuck in.

It is worth the investment to get a safe wheel!

We had wodent wheels at our rescue and over the past year we have culled them all out in favor of the open kind Cora mentions above.

Even the manufacturer says Sugar Gliders using Wodent Wheels should be allowed to run ONE glider at a time and UNDER SUPERVISION.

http://www.transoniq.com/tidbits.html

quote:
A couple times over the years we've heard of sugar gliders "getting their tails caught" by the axle of a wheel. At first thought this sounds fairly impossible - after all, the axle isn't spinning; it's stationary relative to the cage (and the glider), it's the wheel that's the only thing spinning. If the glider is running along in a "conventional" mode, this is true and all is well in the world. However, if the glider likes to stop short and do a loop-the-loop while the wheel spins on - while at the same time grabbing the axle with his tail, he could be setting himself up for a good tail-yanking. This appears to be a pretty rare situation, but one of the best suggestions we've heard is that covering the axle with a freely-rotating plastic tube, such as a short piece of pvc pipe, will prevent this. In fact, we like this idea so much, we've added such an item (Glider Guard) to our Replacement Parts page. You can get one for free - just cover the postage. And, to try to make things even more "glider-proof" we've created a Glider Shield that completely encloses the axle area. Also available on our Replacement Parts page.

As anyone who own gliders knows, two gliders produce ten times the chaos as one glider. If you have two gliders who run together, it's strongly recommended that they do this under supervision. (It's certainly safest that they run individually.) Gliders have been known to do crazy things like link their tails things while running - NOT good.

It has been added to the gliderpedia page about wodent wheels:

I hope more people will be able to make informed decisions about their wheel purchases.

@Glider momma, I highly recommend the Stealth Wheel. It is REALLY quiet and they LOVE it, but most importantly, it's SAFE. It's a bit pricy but it's worth every penny. You could also buy it with the trim track to file their nails down without all the huffing and puffing lol.
